I went to visit my local zoo at Dudley on Tuesday 5th December but the weather was just to bad. The next time I went was Thursday 8th December and I found out the zoo closed on Tuesday it's a good job I didn't go all the way to the zoo then.
My point is does anyone have any information about zoo's being closed during this bad weather.
As I've visited most of the UK web sites and hardly any actually say if they are open or not.
Any info please as would like to visit zoo's in the snow
thank you

Marwell has been closed since Wednesday, and will be assessing the situation on Monday: Meaning it'll be closed at the weekend too. A shame as I was hoping to see it in the snow tommorow. I'll see if I can visit the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park in the winter weather instead. :)

Cotswolds was open yesterday (Friday) but warning of slippy conditions. Birdland should be open today, still lots of snow around but having spent 4 hours shovelling snow the paths are clear & gritted :)

Several aviaries damaged with roughly a foot of snow, everyone safe and sound, this was the snowy owl aviary at 8 o clock Wednesday morning :(

in aus, my local wildlife park remained open (even though the weather is extremely hot). would have been better to just close the park as i was the only visitor all day.

I wonder how smaller tropical birds and mammals are faring in some collections , particularly those kept in small timber houses which must be very difficult to keep warm in these extremely cold conditions .

A lot of our more delicate species are kept in indoor aviaries but all our newer outdoor aviaries have been built with sheds with heat lights in. Bizarrely its our Himalayan species such as Tragopan & Blue Pie that spend all day in the shelters and the Hornbills/Parrots etc seem to enjoy staying out for as long as poss

Bad Weather; Zoo is Open or Closed?

So a quick look around frozen Britain, which zoos are definately open or closed at present?

Pertinax was having a lovely time outside must have been lovely for his feet at one stage he was just sitting in the snow. [Pertinax the silverback that is]

Cooling his ulcers....presumably the moats aren't frozen then?

Judging by their condition today, with the temperature above zero, I'd say they were partially frozen over last week. The electric fence around the gorilla island would, presumably, prevent any Torvill and Dean impersonations.

I'll start this thread off again

If anyone knows of any collection closed due to bad weather please let us know
