This Forum is only Wondering which Zoos in the World have Warthogs (Phacochoerus africanus) and Meerkats (Suricata suricatta). I'm Just Curious as a Warthog and a Meerkat are used to Represent the Characters of Pumbaa and Timon in the Walt Disney Animated Film The Lion King. I'm Only Curious.

I know "Ouwehands Dierenpark" in Rhenen, The Netherlands, keeps them together. The Meerkats have a piece of land on their own where the Warthogs can't get to. The last time I visited Ouwehands, the Meerkats were with the Warthogs.

Yeah, I see you're very, very curious about species combinations kept in zoos. Not that you shouldn't start threads, but it might be easier to look at ISIS for North America and Zootierliste for Europe instead of asking here, at least if it's animals common in zoos.

I guess there are tons of zoos which keep both meerkats and warthogs. Meerkats are extremely common in zoos, you know, and warthog aren't too rare either. On top of my head, I think of Aalborg Zoo in Denmark, Antwerp Zoo and London Zoo.

I've never seen them in a mixed exhibit, so I cannot help you out with that.

Toronto has both Slender-tailed Meerkats (since they opened) and Warthogs since the early nineties, and although they're exhibited in the same pavillion (the warthogs have an outdoor exhibit as well and the meerkats have outdoor access that isn't publically accessable), they aren't housed together.

Chester have both meerkats and warthogs, but not together: however one of their warthog pairs is mixed with a group of banded mongooses.

San Diego zoo has 3 mobs of meerkats and according to the bus tour the zoo is where the Disney animators came to sketch Pumbaa. We also have lions, hornbills, mandrills and spotted hyenas. I think that covers all the main characters of the Lion King. :)

Milwaukee has both but not together. The meerkats are in the small mammals building and the worthogs are by the African animals
