I think there is somewhere in one of the posts- they describe catching an eight-week old chick to ring it before it can fly and I think mention 'one of two(or was it three) successful nests this year. Anyway, there were something like sixteen pairs being watched in the Spring so its been a disappointing season. The Welsh breeding wasn't mentioned there.

It doesn't go into detail of whereabouts in the country the 14 young fledged came from- probably some(more?) were from the East Anglian population and elsewhere. It seems birds in Somerset at least didn't contribute very many this year to this total.

Unfortunately for the birds I do not believe that there is adequate licencing in place to educate licencees in exactly which species they are shooting. However I find it hard to believe that it mistakenly shot it. What else would it be? A heron, egret all completely different and I presume still illegal? A Stork sp. Still illegal. I do accept hunting but hunters MUST be educated and know exactly what they are shooting, whithout an excuse of that little bustard looked like a Red-legged Partridge
