Safari Parks in UK - Elephants

the whole site is chipperfields old holding ground

I feel that it must be pointed out that if the fact that the site is connected to the Chipperfields in some fashion counts as one of the factors which rendered your visit a "misfortune", the majority of safari parks in the United Kingdom share this issue

Well some of us consider visiting a safari park a misfortune,certainly it is for the Elephants at one of them locked and chained up in the house when it is closed to the public!

I do not know about UK elephants, but being behind the scenes in person with multiple elephant exhibits in multiple zoos in America, I can tell you any elephant in a large AZA zoo here in America isn't just fine but striving. (Maybe not every one- like older zoos- meets the needs of striving, but any with a recently built exhibit is striving. The ones who don't supply state of the art exhibits do try their very best for the elephants so I know they are in good hands.)

That's interesting. Your yearly roundup thread suggests it is a suspicion that you are basing solely on what you see from the Severn Valley Railway...

West Midlands Safari Park 14/2/2016,Those that know me will know I am not a fan of safari parks on the whole,but this place does have a big plus,in that it has a pretty damn good reptile house,so as a result of this I managed to add another 14 species.Although the venomous collection has gone down hill a bit it still has more than Chester Zoo,in fact its not far behind in terms of the total number of herps on show.As for the rest of it I think all I need to say is White Lions and Tigers and African Elephants that are I believe are chained in the house for the hours in which the park isn't open,I say this because I very often visit the Severn Valley Railway that passes the park and I have NEVER seen them out if the park isn't open!

West Midlands Safari Park 14/2/2016,.... African Elephants that are I believe are chained in the house for the hours in which the park isn't open,I say this because I very often visit the Severn Valley Railway that passes the park and I have NEVER seen them out if the park isn't open!

What a remarkable coincidence these posts are - such a similar theme but not about the same place. So you are now saying there are TWO safari parks where you believe (sorry 'know from your mysterious sources') they keep their elephants chained when the park is closed to the public? Honestly - you get awfully ariated about other people 'speculating' but are quite happy to state your beliefs as fact when it suits. At least have the integrity to admit it.

Well only 1 safari park works completely in protected contact in the UK. As for my sources they know the truth and they also know I will never name them, it is up to you if you think this is speculation or fact.

Probably not your best move! I've only seen elephants at 2 safari parks ( in fact I've only been to 2 haha) but they were both drive past enclosures, I don't think elephants work as safari parks should be drive through surely?!

I tend to agree that they don't really work for Safari Parks...
