Has anybody visited the zoo recently? If so any idea how work is progressing on the new enclosures in islands?

The plans are on the cheshire and west planning web site, just search for chester zoo, looks like a lot of climbing things

Yes, those are the plans, it says they don't need planning, but have submitted the plans anyway.

Thanks - we don't get to go to Chester very often at all so my sense of where things are is not always very good! Definitely seems to be a big climing area / slide combo rather than water play area then...

Just because its not mentioned on these plans doesn't mean that they aren't building one or discussing building one with an outside contractor!

Where is the Rainbow Lawn? Tried to open the plans but none the wiser! Sorry
The plans show it to be on what I have always known as the Fountain Lawn by the Lions. It will be a shame to see it go because I liked the otter statue.

If that area is to become a play area I agree totally! Bad news! If it were for animals I wouldn't object so much, but to fill an open space with another play area is terrible! Sorry Chester members!

Ok Captain exclamation mark(!) ... calm down.

It always seems a shame to loose space to play areas - but there is also a part of me that welcomes areas for kids to be corralled in.

At least they are doing something with the land, it was fairly neglected in my opinion, with very little there. Either way we also get some new aviaries out of it!

We must take into account that the number of visitors to Chester Zoo is increasing year on year. Consequently the Zoo has to cater for these extra visitors by improving on the capacity and range of its facilities and attractions. That means everything from the car park to the Gift Shop must be under consideration for expansion or upgrading and in some cases new facilities will be needed. I presume that the Commercial Operations team think that the current 3 playgrounds may not be sufficient for the number of children expected to arrive next year and I have no problem with building a new area where they can play safely and let off steam, without bothering the animals or elderly visitors (like myself ;)).
I think that as the zoo expands we must expect more kiosks, more food outlets, more toilet blocks, wider paths and perhaps new educational and entertainment features: they must inevitably accompany the new and refurbished animal exhibits that we want to see, and I hope we might even get some new quieter and more peaceful areas too.

Gentle you always have the best way of saying things and putting them into perspective!
