Welcome to the new ZooChat

I guess this is the perfect place to ask this. Will there ever be a full New Comments section in the form of a thread? Aside from my own news and posting my own photos, that was the primary method of engaging in conversation on this site.

Basically, if anyone comments on any of my photos don't take offence if I don't reply because I probably won't even know about it :)

Ditto.

I've noticed that I do not receive email notifications when an individual comments on one of my photos in the gallery. My personal information states that I will receive an alert for a variety of comments, posts, etc., and that works for threads but not photos. Whenever someone comments on a thread that I've previously posted in then I'm notified via email but for whatever reason I am not alerted in regards to photo comments. This week I've logged onto ZooChat and then found out on several occasions that there have been loads of comments on some of my old photos and I've been quite surprised!

I'll look into this - not sure what is supposed to happen with photo comments.

yeah same for me. I set it so that I should get them (see a few posts up) but it seems to work only for occasional comments. I think it may not work for photos uploaded before the move to the new site perhaps?

I'd suggest that's the most likely scenario - older photos that were migrated from the previous version of the site won't automatically alert you because they probably don't have a "watch" set on them.

To get an alert for new comments on your photos, you'll need to "watch" your photo.

You can set your preferences to automatically watch photos you upload

... the issue will be that this only applies when adding new photos and won't automatically set a watch on old photos you've uploaded or other people's photos you've commented on.

To take care of that I'd need to program something which allows you to automatically set a watch on all old photos (your photos and optionally on other's photos you have commented on).

Do you mean a "new comments on photos" search? Yes, that's already been discussed and I do plan to add this functionality.

Okay thank you. I thought I read that somewhere but I thought it was my hopeful imagination. With this change, I would also like to know if the most recent comment on a photo will bring the photo up to the front of the gallery as it used to?

I'm undecided as to whether I want to do that. I think it would be better to just have newly uploaded photos rather than recently commented on photos showing up on the gallery home page.

I can't really think of a compelling use-case for showing most recently commented on photos first? Obviously there will need to be a "Recent Comments" search instead - that's what I'm planning on building.

In the old ZooChat, galleries were sorted by "latest activity", either uploads or comments, which made looking at new stuff easy, as you didn't have to search through the gallery. But it obviously disrupted the upload order, which may have been relevant (although often wasn't). I guess having the option to sort the gallery by "latest activity" (in addition to the date, etc sort functions currently available) would be widely utilised, certainly by myself. It would also be useful to be able to set a default sort for galleries, so they are in the order we most prefer.
