Does anyone know which of the giraffes at Dudley are pure-bred rothschild's?
 
I'm glad the bush dogs are returning, I always thought they suited that enclosure very nicely! :)
 
On Saturday, May 6 – our actual opening day – we’re encouraging visitors to Walk on the Wild Side and join our sponsored walk in aid of our Bornean orangutan enclosure appeal, as we’re aiming to build a separate outdoor exhibit for our critically endangered great apes, at a cost of £800,000.

We’ll be turning back the clock and inviting supporters to dress to impress in 1930s / 1940s gear or fancy dress for the 5km fundraiser around the 40-acre site, before joining us for a party in the castle courtyard, where there’ll be birthday cake and entertainment by vocal harmony singers, The Glamophones, as well as a display of zoo memories from the last eight decades.

Zoo Director Derek Grove, said: “DZG has changed so much in 80 years and we’ve got lots to celebrate.

“But we’ve always relied on the support of our loyal visitors and hope they’ll get behind our anniversary appeal to provide a new home for our orangs, Benji, Jorong, Jazz and Sprout by signing up for the walk.

“There is no minimum sponsorship requirement, but we’re encouraging everyone to raise at least £50 and every penny will be put towards the work, with the aim to start within three years.”

£800,000 is an impressive and surprising total, especially as that's just for one outdoor exhibit and not the whole thing. And within 3 years too! Exciting times.

Really you needed to ask that question if only the male is pure then how can any calf be pure!!Finally never believe anything claimed by PR as they are not zoo people,and only know what makes a good story.Because would we are breeding hybrids that are of no use to the breeding program make one that made them look good.I think not!
 
Does anyone have any more information on Inca the Asiatic Black Bear? was she captive born and how long has she been at Dudley? Many thanks, Ed

An excellent list, I believe Frankie and Johnny came from Oxford Zoo. Though I am not so sure about Chico being the second born in the UK ?? What about Bristol Zoo, and there were certainly a few born at London (though many also did not survive of course).
 
Inca is 36 years old this year, and I believe she was born at Dudley ? But some Asiatics did go from Dudley to Glasgow Zoo on loan before returning to Dudley when it closed later on.
 
Something I posted in the 2016 thread...

"Inca started life as part of a five-strong group of bears at the zoo in the 1990s.

However, they had to be separated because two of the group did not bond - so Inca and pal Gretel were moved to a new home in Glasgow in 1997. After more than five years in Scotland they moved back down south to Dudley in 2003".

That's as much as I know about Inca, sorry.
