I read a piece in one of the papers today that this is the first Bornean orang baby to be born in the UK for nearly ten years, surely that isn't right?
Well, Paignton had 2 Bornean births in 2013 for a start!

I knew I'd seen a baby somewhere. Sprout at Dudley can't be 10 yet either?

What a surprise the pr team got something wrong again, pity they cannot use the library to do some research!

It depends on your definition of 'nearly a decade' but the press release quotes a primate keeper as saying the last Bornean birth at Chester was eight years ago. Is that not correct?

The last Bornean birth at Chester prior to the latest was Latifah in May 2009

Thanks. So the zoo's marketing team are accurate, and it's @Brum 's paper that's got it wrong. :)

It wasn't my paper, it was in my doctor's waiting room... :p
I knew there was something odd about it though, I knew there were more recent births than that! :p

Does anybody know where the kids sandpit play area is in the zoo, seen a few pics of people playing in it?

The above article doesn't mention Latifah, have they just missed her off or is she no longer at Chester ?

10th April 2017 Today I took my 6 month old for his visit to Chester Zoo and I am one proud daddy. Interesting to see the Zoo through a new perspective and a different pace to go around the Zoo. The Zoo today, for a quite cold Monday during the Easter holidays was very, very busy compared to similar visits I have made over many decades at this time of year.

The entrance with the spectacle of three young elephants is quite powerful and to hear my son laugh, giggle and see him smile at the antics of Nandita was more than I had hoped for. The Giraffes also drew quite a crowd and reaction from my son. We were also very surprised at how active the Eye-eyes were and this is surely a neglected gem from many visitors in the collection. I was also shocked and very pleased at the number of Black Rhino active across their paddocks.

I was pleasantly surprised that the other children I went with today, 4 and 6 years old, didn't ask to use the playgrounds once and just wanted to see animals. Howevr, the construction of the new playground did not offend me at all but I do wonder about the space list for families to sit on the lawns in summer in this area.

However, Several of the key areas of the Zoo prove to be vey difficult or near impossible to navigate if you have young children such as ROTRA and Gharial. Whilst I was pleased to see a number of developments I did feel that a little too much construction/development is going on right across the Zoo at the moment. It will be intesting what changes may happen soon to areas the old tiger enclosure and European On the Edge.

A very very good day out.
