Detroit Zoo Detroit Zoo

From the zoos facebook....

The Detroit tigers are getting a new home – the zoo tigers, that is! The ferocious felines at the Detroit Zoo will soon have a renovated and expanded habitat, thanks in part to a $1 million gift from the Richard C. Devereaux Foundation.

The Devereaux Tiger Forest will provide the animals with more room to roam (triple the space!) and will feature naturalistic elements important to the species, including high vantage points, open spaces, trees, a cave, waterfall and pool.

A good deal of the reason for the high attendance was the opening of the new penguin exhibit. I should note that because of the popularity of the exhibit the Detroit Zoo did not honor Toledo zoo memberships for reciprocity (Toledo is a little over an hour's drive south. However, Toledo still honors Detroit memberships. I did politely express to the Detroit society management I thought this was not necessary.

Friendly reminder that the lion-headed macaques are off-exhibit and that their current exhibit is occupied by ring-tailed lemurs. :I

From may 18, but the Detroit zoo is getting endangered boreal toads, and will obviously go in the amphibian center

I was just there last week. It was great as always. I'm probably far behind on things, but when did the lion-tailed macaques get shipped out and where did they go?
