Dublin Zoo Dublin Zoo news thread

News from zoo matters spring edition... highest ever visitor numbers 1,143,904 and exceeding the one million mark for the 6th year running. 66 new arrivals in 2016. Sulawesi crested macaque born bringing the group to 22. A male white caped mangabey born in 2011 has moved to Duisburg Zoo, Germany to a bachelor group. New series will be 8 episodes. A replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton has been ordered and will take 6 months to cast the bones. Replica of one discovered in 1987

New trailer for The Zoo, airing April 2nd. On an irrelevant note, the first keeper looks like Cobie Smulders.

Visited today, birds still off show. On the hill up to the orangutan house there's an aviary with indoor and outdoor housing that had a citron crested cockatoo being the inhabitant. Maybe there's more than the one I seen. Kuno now looks like a fabulous fully grown male and has been joined by two female cubs in with him. Just Kumar, Suri and Sita in the original enclosure now. Made the gorilla house shortly after feeding, Kafi paying close attention to Lena and the baby who was moving about. Mayani and her daughter Kambiri close together eating. No sign of Vana and Tebogo but a door was open so maybe being fed separate

Agreed completely stupid! Nothing compared to when in 2016 a woman got €115,000 when she slipped on a manhole near the sea lions.

In tonight's episode (#6), well known vets John Lewis and Peter Coates made a visit to Sumatran tiger Kepala. He was in the old artic fox enclosure at that stage so maybe this dental operation held his move up.....Would love if this cage was next years development to add a new species, space to even build a public access house where the Asian small clawed otters were beside it...
The arrival of three African hunting dogs from Denmark was shown and one of the existing females becoming heavily pregnant.

Video from fb on gorillas feeding time. Vana and Tebogo still being integrated, Lena is fed separtely due to Mayani being dominant and greedy around food. This weeks episode of the zoo showed Kuno and Kyna (now at helsinki) being separated from the pride into the adjacent enclosure. Finally found out why a lion cub who was born a few weeks after Kumbla in 2015 was never announced to the public... This weeks episode showed she had broke her leg and kept indoors with mum Suri. This cub along with Kumbala are now in with Kuno in the adjacent enclosure to the main pride.
