Just in case anyone is interested, you can now enter the Tropical Realm, Giraffe House and the Warty Pig enclosure on google maps, on a globe sphere
 
There was definitely a small mammal species in with the sloths at some point, this was a while back. But can't remember what species.

Your memory is playing tricks on you, I am afraid :p as @zoogiraffe said, there *were* plans to have Azara's Agouti in the exhibit but these never actually came to pass.
 
No indefinitely saw something, they didn't last for long, even had signs up, maybe even before the sloths moved in.
 
The signs for the agouti did indeed go up, but the animals themselves never actually went in :p so like I said, your memory is playing tricks on you!

If you don't believe me, note that in this post from February 2012 after the exhibit was completed, it is noted that the sloths had finally gone on-display and that - although signage for both the sloths and agouti was present - the latter species was still absent; then in May 2012 this post notes that plans to move the agouti in had been scrapped.

Don't worry your not going mad, I am like you I thought they had gone in the exhibit....must have been a rat....
 
I would have been very worried if I was wrong as the person who told me they didn't go in,should know what is where in the zoo!
 
Is this being a pedantic issue and it was a different species (sub-species)?

Or has there never been a small ground dwelling mammal in there?

Nothing mammal wise of any form, has gone in with the Sloths . I suspect people have seen what they have wanted to see, I know I have anybody that was with me in Koln and a certain monitor will agree with me on that.

In fairness, you spotted a very nice bit of blue pipe. It just wasn't a monitor lizard. ;)
