Sorry to hear about Esmeralda. I remember seeing her in a late 2015 trip, but I noticed she wasn't around this time and forgot to inquire here. She was a stand-out face to spot in Tropic World South America. Thanks @Grant for the update.
Baboon Island and the Bear Grottos will likely remain untouched for years to come. The cost of demolishing them is simply too much for Brookfield to bear. (Pun not intended.)

Visited the zoo today, but no news to report sadly.
However, I have an additional announcement. Its something I've been working on over the past few weeks.
In the coming days I will be starting a dedicated Brookfield zoo youtube channel. It will be called, "Brookfield ZooTube". It will allow you the viewers to get a first person look into the zoos 20+ exhibits, with full one take walkthroughs. Additionally, tune into, "The Brookfield Briefing," for updated and to the point news coverage. I will be posting more info when the channel starts.
Today I filmed a 9 min walkthrough through Great Bear Wilderness that will be the very first walkthrough uploaded on the channel. I also recommend checking out Meilover's youtube channel. She posts some wonderful clips of the zoos animals.

While checking out aforementioned videos, I also found this one - reels of footage from Brookfield Zoo circa 1962. It should be expected to feature outdated cages, and does, but it's interesting video nonetheless, featuring glimpses of the Giraffe House, Primate House internal, and Baboon Island when it was multi-species, in addition to the cat and bear grottos and Pachyderm House.

49 year old gorilla, Ramar, had surgery on his knee. He is doing better and expected to recover from the surgery.
