Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium News 2017

It is not Azizi. She already had a baby rhino this year. It is not the lioness. It is not Ember. I doubt if Victoria was AIed she would be due already. So it is not her. Snowflake has not been here long enough. It is not Zakula. It is probably not Ibo. It is not Candy because she still has her baby.

Sox the giraffe has been approved. Perhaps the younger female tiger. Maybe a sea lion. Maybe Leela the siamang, but the zoo is likely to swap pairs in the new breeding plan. The female red panda is also a candidate.

Just some thoughts.

Warty pigs are a possibility too.

Yes, definitely not Snowflake. If you don't even factor her short time at the zoo, most polar bears do not give birth in September nor would they have visual evidence of a cub.
The one that is pregnant does not have visual evidence either perhaps in the later months

Coolio's story for anyone who was wondering: (I wrote this)

abandoned by his mother as a young pup, Coolio, a male Northern Elephant Seal washed up on pebble beach, California. He is on land by himself not knowing where to go. He was brutally attacked by a large flock of seagulls, which gave him lots of scars you will see if he is up close, and caused his near blindness. On November 20th 2013, he was rescued by the north coast marine mammal center. He was underweight and unresponsive, only weighing 140 pounds. NCMMC normally releases animals back into the wild, but as coolio is blind, he cannot be released. the center asked Pittsburgh if they would bring him in, and they agreed. Coolio arrived in Pittsburgh in early April 2014. It is now 3.25 years later, and coolio is perfectly healthy (except for his blindness), is around 4.5 years old, weighs over 750 pounds, knows a ton of behaviors (either 40 or 400) and now can be viewed on exhibit in waters edge. The zoo plans on getting another elephant seal of one cannot be released again.

Ya, that would definitely be 40. I don't think there are any animals that know 400 unique behaviours, lol.

So as of now I'm creating a list of species the zoo has and I am including off exhibit species that you won't normally see, I can more than 80% of the off exhibit species on the list, and it should be up in two weeks at the latest (this list does not include animals in quarantine or names)

So is coolio on exhibit with the sea lions, and who are they?

Coolio is on exhibit in Water's Edge. His exhibit was originally to be a walrus exhibit. The zoo was unable to get a walrus. They acquired sand tiger sharks and they lived in the exhibit until last August when preparations began to get the exhibit ready for Coolio. The zoo's sea lions live nearby in an exhibit in Kids Kingdom. They have a male named Seahawk who is around 915 pounds. There are three females named Maggie, Zoey, and Seahawk's daughter Piper.

How the nyala intro will go-
The four nyalas will be introduced to each other later this week
Next week they will go on exhibit without ostriches or damals
Then they will go out with ostriches
Then they will go out with the dama gazelles

Any nyala sightings yet?

No nyalas yet
Got some interesting info though
Sea otters are still off because of cracks and leaks, they are sealed now
Conservation solarium will have an indoor Pygmy hippo exhibit for the winter

Here is the reason the orangutans never had an outdoor exhibit:

The original tropical forest plan was supposed to have the building a lot larger in size, with a lot more exhibits. There was also supposed to be a second floor which would have the orangutans on that floor, and so the orangutans would have an outdoor area above higher up than the other exhibits, but a lot of cutbacks made that not be able to happen.

I was at the zoo today and noticed there was some construction going next to the exit of jungle oddesey. There was no sign so I was wondering if anyone knew what they're doing there?

I wonder if any other Jungle Odyssey animals will get winter exhibits in the solarium (at least on rotation).

That is where the Conservation Solarium will go, unless you mean the zip line.

This would have happened just before the zoological society took control of the zoo from the city I believe.
