Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Cotswold Wildlife Park news 2017

1/Five European wolf cubs have appeared out from their den.They were born 6 weeks ago.
2/ A Chapmans Zebra foal has been born.
3/ The outdoor area of Little Africa has now been made into an aviary and now contains Keyan Crested Guinea Fowl as well as Stanley Crane and Dik Dik.
4/ Still no appearance of rhino calves ! Both still pregnant.

Apparently they are being looked after by the father, Ash according to an article I read. It says he calls them out of the den to come and get food. This article also confirmed the sexes of the cubs as 3:2.
 
Visited today and saw the wolf cubs out with dad - tbh I'm not sure we saw all five as the most that we could spot at one time was three - but all that we saw seemed to be doing well. Ash also seemed pretty relaxed.
 
today i saw Ash and three wolf cubs, the cubs look like there are thriving and Ash looks very unsettled still.

Trinidad piping guan 2 chicks with parents been very protective

african crowned crane, one with one older chick

same with white naped crane, its either a fully grown fledgling or one adult moulting like heck

red titi monkeys female with one very young baby


of course pictures to follow in the gallery ASAP
 
oh and the rainbow lorikeets are now next to the lemur walk through exit, i believe where the madagascan fody where kept
 
Went today and saw 4 cubs, someone said one had died, anyone know if this is right ?
Ash wouldn't let them near him, he was growling and snarling at them
 
Are all the white storks still at the wildlife park, or have they been sent elsewhere? If so, does anyone know where they've been sent?

Kind of answering my own question, just found this:

White Storks

"...in partnership with the Roy Denis Wildlife Foundation, Warsaw Zoo and Cotswold Wildlife Park, Knepp Estate is helping to establish a breeding population of free-living White Storks in Britain once again."

Could they have gone here? Very exciting if so!

First I've heard about this reintroduction. The article says Knepp already had some storks by February this year. I saw about 60 at Cotswold sometime after that but maybe they, or some of them will also go/have gone to Knepp or some of the other landowners involved in this scheme.
 
Visited for the first time on Saturday (crazy as it's only an hour away). I won't do a review but some general comments.
* Firstly - loved it. It is a great gem of a zoo with a nice mixed collection of standard zoo animals (lions, giraffe, zebra, wolf, white rhino, bactrian camel, humboldt penguin, SC otters, meerkat) and some oddballs/rarities (sifaka, wolverine, gundi, clouded leopards, belted ruffed lemurs). Some of them were first time sightings for me. Place reminded me a bit of Jersey (walled garden) + Newquay/Exmoor (wooded bits) with a dash of more typical zoos like Bristol/London. I can understand now why I have only ever heard positive noises about CWP in the past.
* There must be just as many garden staff as keepers in order to maintain the gardens. Lots of succulents and cacti (how they cope with English winters?). Exceptional, and I go to alot of National Trust/English Heritage properties. Even a tomato collection...
* Favourite spp - rock hyrax in the indoor exhibit in the cafe. Perfect spp, very active youngsters! Sifaka clear second choice.
* Favourite exhibit - Madagascan exhibit. Nice mix of spp in well planted enclosure.
* Cannot comment re: reptiles and inverts as we ran out of time (daughter's birthday and everything that entails). Will need to go again!
* Although not commonly mentioned as a point of interest on ZC, but thought the wooden treehouse/fort in the playground was magnificent. Multilayers, very fun - difficult to extract said child and friend from.
Definitely recommended.

Also note re: white storks. Didn't see any signage about reintroduction (could have missed it), but we were surprised by the number of individuals.

Great that you had a good time - I enjoy CWP a lot too :)

It is a shame you missed out on the reptiles / inverts as it is a fantastic part of the zoo. Definitley warrants a return visit!
