Hamerton Zoo Park Hamerton Zoo News 2017

I popped into Hamerton today for the first time since reopening. Cicip was out in the main enclosure, the first time i've seen him out there for months.
The path for the Flamingo has a shed with a couple of incubator things, one occupied by a Flamingo chick, the other I can't remember.

Also, spotted two more baby Lynx clambering about in the back of their enclosure.
 
Visited earlier in the week, highlight was probably the 3 Lynx kittens who I watched for a while playing around near their mother in the back cage.

Also saw a baby Pudu and the white Camel born earlier this year.

Saw an active Anteater, eastern Aardwolf, Oncilla and the swamp cavy, all species which can be hit & miss.

Good to be able to see the Cassowary a bit closer up from the new flamingo path though still too far away really!

Building work has moved on a bit on the Nocturnal House since my last visit in September 16, but still some way off completion.
One of the new cages where the Viscacha were previously looked almost ready and there was a sign saying new exhibit opening soon on it.

There were 2 young Ruppells Griffon Vulture in that shed earlier in the week
 
The excellent latest issue of Zoo Grapevine confirms that Hamerton have held Greater Grison in the collection for some time . ( the species appeared on zootierliste a while ago but was removed ) . A pair arrived from Huachipa Zoo in Peru and have since bred twice - they now hold 2.2.3 . Some should be on show early 2018 . Very exciting .

4 of the 5 Cheetahs that arrived from the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre ( De Wildt ) have 'King' Cheetah in their ancestry and are potential acrriers of this recessive mutation .

Indeed they have. It's been something of a badly-kept secret, but Zoo Grapevine received permission from Hamerton's owner to 'go public' with news about the grisons.
 
Today, I met a sweet little Striped Skunk who recently moved into the new enclosure by the Lar and Ring Tailed Lemurs recently. 4 or 5 months old, the boy should be getting a female partner in the near future.

The possums are already onshow, saw one following a keeper cleaning their enclosure when I visited. They are in a house across from the skunk by the reptile house.

The Grisons are in one of the Jaguarundi enclosures next to the B&W Ruffed Lemur and Meerkat. I only saw them nervously sniffing about at the hatch at the bottom of the run up to the enclosure.

Also, am I going mad, or are there 4 Pudu now?

You are not; there is male Reggie, female Boudicca, older male calf Atticus and younger male calf Spartacus.
