Penguin in captivity

I wonder of anyone on Zoochat has seen all the penguin species. It would seem unlikely given that the Galapagos penguin and several subantarctic species aren't currently in captivity, but there's always a slim possibility.
I haven't seen all the species of penguins but have seen Galápagos penguins. Two years ago I visited the Galápagos Islands and had one approach me in the water.

I have seen Humboldt, Magellanic, African and whatever species the Rockhoppers at Whipsnade are.

In Europe, I think Faunia Madrid has the biggest collection of penguins with 7 species.

Personally I've seen 12 species (King, gentoo, adelie, chinstrap, macaroni, northern rockhopper, southern rockhopper, Fiorland, little, African, humboldt, Megallanic). The only one I could still see in captivity is the emperor penguin.

I've seen Antarctic Gentoo, Australian Fairy, Black-footed, Long-crested Rockhopper, Humboldt's, King, Macaroni, Magellan, Short-crested Rockhopper, Subantarctic Gentoo

My list of penguin species I've seen is not particularly interesting with a mere 8 species: Humboldt, African, Magellan, king, gentoo, macaroni, northern rockhopper, and western rockhopper.

I've never been bitten by a penguin :P... though I have petted some juvenile Humboldts once.

I've never been bitten by a penguin but I have been headbutted by a penguin.
They do look like they have some pretty powerful beaks. Luckily on my only close encounter with a penguin the bird was just curious and only looked for a few seconds.

I was in the way of a penguin at Living coasts so it just walked into me and
I had to move out of the way

I have been bitten, head butted, flipper slapped, mounted, violated, brayed with and cuddled by penguins, along with working with them both professionally and privately. Very charasmatic little birds.

I think everyone loves penguins. I certainly do (my profile picture might be a hint). I love how curious they are and also how decieving they are because one minute you think they are cute but they can be big bullies. Oh and they smell.

I have been bitten and scratched by penguins (thankfully the smallest spp) and also cleaned out penguin nest-boxes. Not a pleasant job...

I have seen Gentoo, Magellanic, Humboldt, African, and Rockhopper Penguins. Also, I know Chatham Penguins were kept in captivity before they went extinct.

Seriously? Do you have any source on this information, I am intrigued!

It comes from this 1994 paper: https://notornis.osnz.org.nz/system/files/Notornis_41_sup_165.pdf

Basically a live crested penguin collected on the Chatham Islands was kept for a few months at some point between 1867 and 1872. There is literally nothing to suggest it was the extinct species (which is known only from subfossil bones) other than that it was caught on those islands. Crested penguins of various species are common vagrants and stragglers in New Zealand and the Chathams.

I have seen king, chinstrap, gentoo (both antarctic and subantarctic), Australian little, magellanic, humboldt, African, western rockhopper, northern rockhopper and macaroni penguins. So I'm only missing adelie, eastern rockhopper, Fiordland and emperor penguins in captivity.

Chinstrap Penguin: SeaWorld Orlando

African Penguin: San Diego Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, Honolulu Zoo, and Minnesota Zoo

There are Emperor Penguins at SeaWorld Orlando now? I thought they were exclusive to SeaWorld San Diego.

Yeah, SeaWorld Orlando has them along with other species of penguins. The attraction they're housed in is called "Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin".
