Above it was stated only 27% of the expansion was for animal enclosures! This would be their £50 million expansion?

Erm, no, I'm not picking a fight. But you clearly know the costs of both projects, and £50m is significantly higher than £7.8m. It's irrelevant to the Yorkshire thread what the Marwell tropical house costs. It's like complaining that the oranges someone bought cost a different price to the watermelons that someone else bought.Picking a fight again? I'll bet this isn't all they add! I'll certainly bet they can add half those for less than £7.8m! Sealions & Penguins will cost more, but the first 5 easily!
They don't bother with flash visitor focused enclosures like Marwell or London!!

No, I have not been to any zoo in the UK. I'm not sure how that is relevant to participating in discussions of them unless I was claiming eye-witness information. You've clearly not been to either zoo

I too would love to see a link too.
Where are the birds?, penguins fair enough, hopefully a few aviaries can be dotted around the site.
It's hippo that have caught my eye and with some luck hopefully, common hippo, with underwater viewing.
The rest is pretty standard fare, most of which i'm sure would be on any visitors top 10 must see list, perhaps minus the dhole.
Which species of gorilla? Your optimism is beyond measure.
Well Eastern Gorilla's would be niceMountain Gorillas would be nicer

I'm sure we can get a big truck and some nets togetherAnd where are they sourcing these animals?![]()
Sorry, but I don't agree the 2 are unrelated! YWP will add much more than Marwell will for not much difference if only 27% of the expansion is in animal enclosures!
Marwell is going down, Yorkshire about to be promoted to the big league! Not interested in arguing this!
I first visited Marwell in 1978, it is nowhere near what it was then! I think I can compare this to what YWP is now and what it is about to become?! It will be way better than Marwell once this all happens despite a tropical house!
Hardly big leagues, I was left disappointed when I visited. Yes polar bear enclosures are amazing, but then its a field with a fence around it. Signage is disappointing. They could have built a look out for it (covered area) where they could have filled it with information. The big TV screen, bit of a waste.
Marwell on the other hand I enjoyed the visit much more.
When I visited Marwell last year I was extremely disappointed. There is NO signage at all and the enclosures (Amur Leopards & Snow Leopards in particular) were small and inadequate! YWP has plenty of animal information if you care to look and their enclosures are second to none!
Just saying....... my opinion!

I have to say I really hate most bird enclosures, as they are never really big enough for the birds to fly! Not really a reptile fan either tbh, especially not crocs....lolThe management at YWP are not bird fans, but I'd hope they'll bring some in with the new development. Some reptiles would be good too.
