Yes indeed. Does that get us closer to the theme?
So I think this might be something to do with chemical elements.
The Greek lettered ones are Earth, Air, Water, and that would leave fire so maybe γ is red panda under the name Fire Fox (I think that's an alternative name for Red Panda.
The others have links to elements as well, Diamond Finch = Carbon, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Leadbeater's Cockatoo, Golden-crowned Conure.
I'm not sure about the order though. I doesn't seem to match atomic number, atomic mass, group number or period number. And I'm not sure how some of the species fit the chemical elements theme.

I had just started to reply to your previous post, but you've got the whole thing here. Well done!

The air was the tricky one. The others have several alternatives, but I had to think hard about air. I considered an airy fairy penguin and I suppose that I could have put on a bad Cockney accent and tried an 'airy harmadillo, but as Kakapo said the white cloud mountain minnow is such a lovely fish that it had to be the best choice, even if the word 'air' did not appear.
For the other areas, I thought about choosing a firefinch, but I didn't want another bird: I looked at my computer screen and a better alternative was staring me in the face. The silliest name is the neon day gecko, I presume that it comes from the electric blue stripe like a neon tetra's: but of course neon signs and ready lights are red and the neon tetra's name comes from the red stripe beneath the blue one (as does the name of the cardinal tetra). I should also apologise for the tinamou pun, but I didn't have a photo of a tinfoil barb. I don't have photos of an aluminium catfish, a platinum tetra or a cobalt zebra (cichlid) either: but I think they would have been too hard anyway

And the best thing is that I can pretend this was chemistry revision.
I'm glad Laughing Dove enjoyed the challenge, I hope others did so too.
British newspapers usually publish a complicated quiz to amuse their readers over the Christmas holidays. I intend to do the same next week with a Photo Quiz followed by a crossword puzzle. Then I will take a rest from quizzes for a while
