Christmas Crossword

"Orange Person" was basically a guess for me. I didn't know how the clue related to her.

The Dutch football team play in orange shirts, I presume because the House of Orange has been around since the 16th century at least. So do Blackpool AFC, one of England's most famous clubs, although they have not been very good recently and they say that their shirts are tangerine.
I suspect that Orange Person chose her name because of her fondness for orang utans rather than for any sporting reason :)

I think my favourite clue was "More Experiences than Jimi Hendrix" :p

One that threw me was "From the shores of Lake Michigan." I had Pachyderm Pro for a while but realised it was wrong when nothing else fitted in to it! ;)

I suppose Jimi Hendrix really only had one Experience, but I liked that clue too. My favourites were the ones for FBBird and Batto. I was going to say 'Bird with nothing underneath' for vogelcommando, but I had second thoughts when I realised that idiom might not be understood outside the UK

Explination please ???

It took me ages to get Migdog!

FBBird I got immediately.

I still don't quite understand the clue for Batto - it was one of the last answers I got (and once I did that enabled me to get Shavington Zoo). It is sort of an anagram but not totally. Was the clue a reference to something else?

Swampy has provided the answer and you have shown that I was probably right to rewrite that clue :)

Batto sounds like a boat to people who speak French (bateau).

I have limited French: hello, goodbye, thank-you, policeman, my friend, cat, dog, and I can count to ten.

Boat was not one of the words I knew.

I know I’ve only been on this site for a year and a half now, but I’m a bit miffed that I wasn’t included in this! :p

But in all seriousness, Great idea GL. I would’ve never thought of something like this.
