Colchester Zoo Colchester Zoo news 2017

Pity the glass is too thin to permit a mixed sex group really....

It sounds like you are referring to the old Geoffroy's Cat exhibit.

Unless things have changed recently, the old Geoffroy's cat enclosure & the one next to it have been boarded up with plants placed in front of them for a year or so, so don't think it could be that. I think the Scarlet Ibis enclosure is empty now though?

You are right @pipaluk - it won't be the Geoffroy's cat enclosure. As you say, that has been boarded up for some time now.

any one know how many wolves are left in the zoo i thought they had 1.2 but only seems to have seen 1.1 the brown coloured male and the grey coloured female not seen the white coloured female. Is she still in the collection just been in the den each time I've visited or has she left to a another zoo.

From the Madagascar Express driver a few months ago I was told that the 3 Wolves are elderly and been put together to form a social pack so maybe she has passed away?

Oh I am so sad to read about Telu! I fell in love with him when I went to Colchester. I was there on 20th and 21st November, and he died just two days later - I’m so lucky I got to see him. He was a beautiful dragon.

A news article has been released on the zoo's website concerning the annual stocktake - the news refers entirely to 2017. As well as most of the new arrivals mentioned earlier, there are some that are newly announced - the cherry-crowned mangabey mentioned in the 2018 thread was apparently born last year, as were a pair of pied tamarins.

Anyone else find it quite frustrating how the zoo scarcely even bothers to put out news about its animals anymore? You'd think the birth of two highly endangered pied tamarins would at least warrant a mention, even if its a few weeks after the event, rather than just tacking the news into the end of year report.

Does anyone know what sex the Cherry-crowned Mangabey baby is?

I agree! There has been very little news released at all about developments, births, departures or deaths! Really is frustrating!

I haven’t even seen very little or no signage put up at the zoo to announce births! Strange really!
