News from the zoos Facebook page shows the newly refurbished Aldabran Tortoise house complete with pool, new heating & separated areas for females.

After a visit on Saturday......, The zoo is looking very bare & barren - winter at its harshest but also lots of work going on with drains and under path pipe work.
The Anoa's have left the paddock but not sure they have remained in the collection? Ural Owls have replaced the Fish Owl pair behind the Lions and they have returned to their aviary near the Parrots. Two, possibly 3 Grey Kangaroos were in pouches and all the 'Roo's were very active near the walk-through fence. The Monkey Heights boardwalk was closed off for maintenance. No further work has taken place on the Cheetah or Savannh extension. The Caimen lizards are very active swimming in the old Anaconda tank. A mnagabey has also been born.

Spotted today - the Cottage Aviary is undergoing some serious refurbishment with the right hand side demolished so far. I could speculate that it was damaged in recent storms but there was nobody around to ask. The wood lying about that used to hold it all up looks very wet.

If there was storm damage I hope that no birds were hurt or lost?
It may be a good opportunity to tidy that area up and maybe even create a circular walkway behind the Red Pandas.

I spotted most of the birds from the Cottage Aviary when I did a fairly high speed tour of the zoo with devilfish last Wednesday. The lapwing was in the lobby between Reptile Tropics and the Desert House. There were several grey gulls in with the screamers. The turacos, blue-winged magpies and at least one socorro dove were in the outdoor sections of the hornbill aviaries beside the path towards the tigers (I guess the hornbills were kept indoors).
I would be surprised if the path behind the pandas is opened up, because I suspect there are quite a lot of birds in those off-show aviaries - you can often hear a great argus calling from there in spring and summer.
