The problem with that method is you cannot do this

Whereas the thumbnail does take you to the gallery and the image information, should it be needed

Thanks for the information. I am somewhat embarrassed that as a moderator I am not more familiar with the technical workings of this site. So I will just say post a link or a thumbnail or whatever you feel most comfortable doing.

Now that I realized what I just posted, here's what is my favorite photo of 2017. The spectacled bear among the flowers and snow, taken by SMR. I wouldn't go as far as to say its the best photo on the site, but its still quite impressive!

I've held off until the very last minute. I really wanted, as the 'moderator for Asia', to highlight some of the users in this part of the world, and was going to nominate this artful shot by @baboon:


However, to my astonishment, no-one has nominated the following picture from @gentle lemur, which seems to have been lifted straight off the pages of a Durrell paperback in terms of how much personality it imparts on its subject:


The latter therefore receives my official nomination.
