Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion, Speculation & Questions 2018

Dudley zoo have - Black & white ruffed lemur, Ring tailed lemur, Black lemur & Collared lemur all with access to the walk through area mind you the Collared Lemurs are very rarely out.

Definitely don't anymore. They are outside the walkthrough section, and there's a brick wall separating them from the whole Madagascar walkthrough. They have a large enclosure, opposite the Mongoose but they are not part of the walk through section anymore.
Last went in October when this was the case.
I think there were two pairs, with one having outside access, but looking at other posts from last year, one pair may have deceased. The other pair then, with their youngster are still within the walled section I suppose. Shame, I really liked seeing them outside.

There were definitely 4 if not 5 in the enclosure of which one was a youngster. I have a photo of 4 together (well within lens shot) and I'm sure there were 5 but may have been 4.

Linton, though without a walkthrough, hold White-Collared Brown Lemur, Crowned Lemur, Mongoose Lemur, and Red Ruffed Lemur. These are kept separate most of the time but can be mixed in a large outdoor exhibit.

The Galapagos giant tortoise have been removed from the zoo's website for some reason. Also the Bactrian camels have been added in the 'other mammals' section for some stupid reason when they have an even toed ungulate section. Also, the onagers are in the even toed ungulate section for reasons beyond me. Let me not forget to add that there is pages for the Malayan tapir and binturong on the website but the only way to get to them is by the side list and they aren't on the page itself.

In other words, Chester needs to sort out their website!

I don't know whether to email the zoo or to wait for someone to confirm info here...

Ok, I emailed them. I also remembered on SLOTZ that they were struggling to get on a bit. It's kind of funny that this has happened at the same time that I suggested a new exhibit for them. Maybe they are watching us and I was right and they are building a new enclosure :P

We’re would that new enclosure be though as I can’t think we’re on earth they could go

My suggestion was the lawn between the penguins and the aquarium as there is some bushes there which can also be cut down for an enclosure.

Maybe they realised the state of the tropical house is effecting there health and behaviour, hopefully just moved offshore till this can be fixed or a new home found.

This seems like the most likely reason to be honest, the tortoises are probably the most popular animal in the Tropical Realm for most visitors to see.

Some good news in light of tonight’s secret life of the zoo, Ona the balbac mouse deer has had a calf, it isn’t named or sexed but the zoo have put an image of it on Twitter, this makes it if I’m not mistaken the second successful birth of the species in the Uk, very well done to everyone on the small mammals team for a wonderful achievement!
I missed the episode, did anything else of interest occur?
