Here is a new (second) poll to replace the one from a few years ago. I will define "zoo" in the broadest term to include aquariums, safari parks, exotic animal sanctuaries, etc.

Edit - this time I am allowing the option to change your vote if you get to a higher number in the future.

When I first posted on the original thread on January 1, 2013, I had only visited 11 zoos/aquariums (and only 8 really count as the other 3 were visited when I was a child and thus were not what I would consider proper visits). Now just over 5 years later on January 27, 2018, I have visited 86 collections from three countries: 53 in the United States, 30 in England, and 3 in Scotland. Going off of the original thread, I moved up 4 slots from the lowest to the second highest during this time. I certainly hope this trend continues through the years and I'm able to continue to climb to the numbers many of the rest of you boast!

I’m very restricted to California and even I haven’t seen every zoo in the state. Here are the ones I’ve visited

San Diego zoo
San Diego zoo safari park
LA zoo
Fresno Chaffee zoo
Oakland zoo
San Francisco zoo
Monterey bay aquarium
Aquarium of the bay
Safari west

The one zoo I’ve been to out of the state is the Addis Ababa zoo in Ethiopia. It’s very bad and doesn’t even represent Ethiopian species. It has the lion subspecies but besides that, everything else can be seen in a American or European zoo.

I'm on 116, the same number as the last time I posted on the previous thread (in mid / late 2017).

EDIT: I had a look at my list and added in some lesser places bringing it up to 121 (aviaries in Botanic Gardens and the like). I'd imagine certain people on the forum would scan down the list and say "that doesn't count because my opinion is X", but I count anywhere that displays live animals.

I'm in the same class group that in the previous poll, 25 to 49 with 40 zoos visited, calling zoo in the widest sense possible (including butterfly houses, museums of natural history with a vivarium room (Bonn, Nantes...), botanical gardens with a representative animal collection (Kew, Liberec...).

I see that Zoochatters can be classified into two groups: the "averages", that likes to visit zoos in a medium rate, so the votes go mainly to 10-24 decreasing gradually as higher is the number of zoos visited, and the "exhaustives" that are people with 100+ zoos (now split into three cathegories, in previous thread only one), probably these people have much more spare time, much more money, and lives in countries with much more density of zoos (Germany, Japan...)

Por put the list of zoos that one visited there is already a thread: My zoo list #2

Cuba
-A very small zoo with mainly domestics (no idea on what the name was)
-Zapata Swamp has a place where you can view Cuban crocodiles which I presume some are captive (Does this count?)

I'm pretty sure Zapata Swamp is just a protected area where Cuban Crocodiles live wild :p Even if some were captive on-site, I generally don't count those as zoos, though your definition is up to you. I visited Anza-Borrego State Park in California a few weeks ago and they have a some captive population of Desert Pupfish, but I don't count the park as a zoo (nor would I if I had managed to see any fish :p).

This poll is less than twelve hours old and we already have twelve people voting over 100 (three of those are over 300)!

I’m very restricted to California and even I haven’t seen every zoo in the state. Here are the ones I’ve visited

San Diego zoo
San Diego zoo safari park
LA zoo
Fresno Chaffee zoo
Oakland zoo
San Francisco zoo
Monterey bay aquarium

Safari west...
If you read @snowleopard California road trip thread, you will know there are around 70 zoological facilities in your state. So being "restricted" to California is actually not that restricting!

I was in the same situation as you a year ago. Here is a thread on how I decided number 100.
Help choose my 100th zoo
