Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion, Speculation & Questions 2018

Any idea where the Galapagos been shipped on to?

BTW: All know I was never quite hullabaloo about hybrid Galapagos tortoise. If we are to breed please let it be for conservation purposes. Having said that the issue is highly political as both the Ecuadorian authorities and US / AZA at this point block exports of purebreds to Europe.

Finally saw the painted pups. All 7 of them out playing this am.

Otter pups looking big now ! Luckily got to see the Komodo feeding as well. Plus the Malayan Tapir was outside.

I too saw the painted dog pups and also the Philippine spotted deer fawn. I still haven’t seen the Malayan tapir outside, though, although I had a pretty good view of them indoors. I also rocked up after the carcass in with the Komodo dragon was already half eaten. Didn’t see the otter pups.

Does anyone who’s visited recently know how the construction on new areas are going, specifically the tree kangaroo and Madagascar exhibits

Tree Kangaroo's will be ready for Easter. Madagascar exhibits I believe is October time.

I think I may have seen you around 3.30 in the Sun Bear area, but wasn't sure it was you so didn't wanna make an idiot of myself if it wasn't, but do you have a long black pony tail which is plaited and drawn on eyebrows and were with 2 lads and a girl with permed hair ?

If you were, sorry for being rude and not saying hello but wasn't sure.

I was trying to get some photos of Toni but he was pacing up and down the fence not happy about being kept apart from the female.

My pictures from today to follow.

How did you guess? You must be pretty good at reading people! Pretty accurate description, although my eyebrows are tattooed, not drawn on ;) :p ! We will recognise each other next time!

I was the Blonde lad if you noticed. I was busy taking photo's and listening into you saying the Sun Bears are always active when you go to Chester, which amazed me as they are always sleeping or non existent when I go haha.

My pics from today, well some of them.

Well, in the old tiger enclosure I always used to see Milli more active than Toni, and now in the new enclosure I always see Toni more active than Milli. I don’t think I’ve ever had a single visit where I haven’t seen one, or both of them active, though. Today and on my last visit I only saw Toni. On my visit before that, I saw both Toni and Milli. However, on a normal visit, I usually spend at least an hour just in this area, and they are always my main focus within the entire zoo - so maybe that has some bearing (no pun intended) on what I see!

Nice tiger and binturong photographs especially, by the way!

So here's some speculation. When does everyone think the next elephant calf will be born? If I had to speculate, I would say the next calf will come from Thia some time between 2018 and 2020, given her past calving history and the age of her last calf.
