Burgers' Zoo Burgers Zoo 2018

Does anyone know if Burgers still holds Epaulette sharks?
Yes they do. I saw one yesterday in the tank with the lionfish.

In other news: The red duiker seem to have left the collection/gone behind the scenes. The sign for them is gone and I didn't see them yesterday. In the same enclosure I also only saw one bongo.

I think that area is up for refurb / new exhibit / renovation.

Several species from there including the pygmy hippo have already left.

I really looks like that, eventhough it would be really soon after the Mangrove. But the hippo and possibly the duikers left, the tapirs weren't replaced and many other species (bongo, lemurs, coatis) are non-breeding. I still hold some hope that a few species will be rehomed within the zoo but I fear the worst for the blue duikers, the warthogs and the seals.

Has anyone seen them in the first Lagune tank recently? They used to be easy to find, but I haven't seem them there for quite some time...

I don't think they are in there anymore. As far as I know, they were kept only behind the scenes for a while until one was put in the lionfish tank.

Have to look in the lionfish tank I guess!

I do know for sure that the whole Hagebeck Rock area is going to get refurbished. I have not been to the park for a few weeks but when I was they were doing stuff at the safari, maybe they are moving the african species to the safari (like they should be).

It would be strange to take down the lemur enclosure as it is still pretty new, however they did the same with the new vulture aviary and just put the new mangrove ontop of it.
I guess they are working towards their masterplan that should be finished by 2025

Apparently the works on the safari were because of treefalll caused by a storm. But who knows what they intend to do with that area now...

That was some big damage by treefall. it literally cleared out the trees in a nice square. But yet I hate to say it: The safari has too many trees on the next to the pathing to feel actually like a safari. However I do understand why as their history was a safari park in a forest.

Eventhough they are not spectacular or unusual species, I would say it'll be a loss to the collection if the warthogs and meerkats would be moved out. Just a handful of species could really make the difference in the Safari, and they've got two nice crowd-pleasing species already in the zoo.

The new aviaries were build when the location of the new project (that turned out to be the Mangrove) was still unknown. Let alone 8 or 9 years ago when the old orangutan enclosure was renovated to hold lemurs.

Exactly! Kinda wasting money there. But curious to see what the enclosures are going to hold and curious to see if the warthogs and meerkats get moved to the safari. It would make the safari so much more alive!

Didnt find the epauletteshark in the lionfish tank, stood there for a solid 10 minutes searching in that tank. I also heard a rumour on lungfish in the bush near the coca-cola shed? Did a search yesterday and couldnt find them either.

However update on the Red Duikers, they are indeed gone from the visible collection. Their enclosure is now signed for the blue Duiker. So somethings are changing!

Gone from the visible collection, does that mean that they are finally moving to the Safari area, where they were originally planned (combined with the pelicans).

Some notes from today:
- Still no quails and ducks in the walkthroughs due to bird influenza
- Are there only 2 Dusky langurs left?, not too long ago they still had six.
- The guitarfish in the Laguna are separated again from the other fish.
- The epaulette shark was visible in the lionfish tank (together with 2 moray eel species), the crown-of-thorn stars seem to have left though.

Ah Hidden shark! Will find him one day in that dark tank!
My visit last week still had 4 dusky langurs. Maybe a few are behind the scenes, just like the siamangs (Just not visible for the audience in their indoor enclosure)
The guitarfish have been seperated for almost a month now I believe.

Thanks, that makes more sense, then the 2 offspring have probably been moved. The Siamang were visible today, but the Golden-cheeked gibbon were in the cages behind the scenes this time ;)

The animal was actually quite easy to find in the right front of the tank on the ground, only half hidden by the coral.

Ah good to know! When I was there it was very cold so all animals were inside. So that explains why I didnt see the siamang!
