Toledo Zoo Toledo Zoo and Aquarium News 2018

This logo has been on some of the stories of the museum. Could this be a new logo for the zoo?

It is beginning to show up more and more so the logo is changing. I do not care for the previous one.

Out of curiosity, what would happen to the old Hippoquarium once the hippos are moved to the new river pavilion? Could it become an extension of the elephant exhibit where guests can view the animals underwater? An exhibit for sitatunga?

I have heard nothing and I am a member. It would not have to be an African species. This area has currently become a hodgepodge of species. Remember it is Tembo Trail now and not African Savannah. This gives them more options.

A female spectacled bear named Nieve arrived.

Toledo Zoo welcomes new Andean bear
I honestly think the zoo is in the process of gaining animals that could be implemented in the masrer plan. They are receiving some pretty random animals like mountain lions and various other animals. I'm just curious what the zoo will look like in the upcoming years, especially the Tembo Trail and Tiger Terrace. I personally think they should completely destroy the old, outdated tiger/bear exhibits when the tigers move to where the cheetahs used to be.

Tiger Terrace needs updating, but at least they are not like Cleveland’s grottos. I am just happy they don’t have moats.

I noticed on a SnapChat video today from Toledo that the dingos are in the maned wolf exhibit. Their previous spot will likely become cougars. I am wondering if the maned wolves could move to the former cheetah exhibit and the reindeers could be relocated elsewhere.

Thank you for posting this link (and for posting so many items about the zoos of Ohio; this is much appreciated).

The Toledo Zoo magazine does not seem to be a classic of the genre, with almost nothing that says anything interesting about the zoo itself.

That said, it is notable that this is the last edition which will be published on paper; from now on it will be digital only.

A ‘green’ justification for this is given, of course, and while I am sure this is at least partly true, financial considerations must be important too.

But it does seem a real shame that this move is being made; as publications become more ephemeral, the history and heritage becomes more easily lost....

From Facebook:

Join the Zoo in welcoming a new 15 year old Bornean orangutan, Denda.

He was born at the Brookfield Zoo on August 23, 2001 then moved to Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, New York where he fathered a female offspring in 2012. Keepers tell us he is still settling into his new home, but this summer visitors can look forward to his teenage boy playfulness and love of splashing around in bubble-baths!

Orangutans are listed as critically endangered species due mainly to deforestation from the palm oil industry. You can help by ensuring you are utilizing products made with sustainably produced palm-oil. Download the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) app on Google Play or istore to verify your family's favorite brands and products are orangutan friendly!

Make plans to visit Denda and the rest of our orangtuans in the Great Apes exhibit soon!
