Pairi Daiza Pairi Daiza News 2018

They'll move into the Mersus Emergo, apparently. At present there's only 2 exhibits there capable of holding crocodillians... The alligator exhibit and caiman exhibit. Of course at present they're still very small so I suppose they could be kept in either of those (or perhaps another terrarium?), but I wonder what their long-term plan for them is, as they'll eventually outgrow the largest exhibits currently there...

More very interesting news:
Pairi Daiza is now home to at least 3 Amazilia hummingbirds (Amazilia amazilia), in the enclosures where mouse lemurs etc. used to be kept. I'm not sure if this also means that the Northern bog lemmings are now off-show.
The mouse lemurs now have their own fully nocturnal enclosure in the crypt, next to the bats and mole-rats.

Even more interestingly, for the first time in 20 years birds-of-paradise are coming back to Belgium, and as it stands it seems like they will be on-show a lot sooner than Rotterdam's will! At least three aviaries labelled "Dear visitors, this territory will soon be home to birds of paradise" have been constructed in the small tropical hall between the large aviary and the large temple. No word is out yet on what species and from where, but this is very exciting!

Pairi Daiza will receive 3 Bird of Paradise species, Lesser, King and Magnificent BoP, of which at least one species will be on-show.

Where are they coming from? Magnificent have only one holding in Europe and will no doubt be the hoped-for on-show species.
