Okapis in Europe

Only just caught this, thanks for the updates! Not sure who Dumela is but when we visited Marwell end of last year it was just the trio Shomari, Jabari and Daphne.
I don't know anything about okapis, but I just googled it and found this news article from 2014 mentioning Dumela as their breeding female (Rare calf born at Marwell Zoo) - mother of Dikembe - and a Flickr page from 2007 also had Dumela as being at Marwell (List of okapis in captivity. | Okapi Stripes | Flickr).

Dumela: born on 18 November 2002 Antwerp Zoo
move to Marwell on 08 June 2004.
There is a picture on internet when she went 12 years old in 2014.
Is she deceased?

Again, I believe so as when I visited towards the end of last year there were only three; two males and a female, the female being Daphne who was born at London.

'Kheri' - listed here as being at Chester - was exported to the United States in 2016 (?) I believe.

I though Usala was a male?

He is, theokapi.org appears to be mistaken. In fact, according to Chester's press release after Stomp arrived in October, the zoo holds four Okapi - which would suggest he too has moved on!

TheOkapi.org doesn't often get updated these days. Which is a shame (very useful resource otherwise)

I messaged Chester Zoo and they said that they do indeed have five; Dicky, Stomp, Usala, Stuma and K'tusha. Dicky and Stuma are onshow in front of the giraffe house, Stomp and K'tusha in the back and Usala is offshow :)

  • Chester Okapi Update : Stuma the female paired with dicky died earlier this year after not coming round from anaesthetic.

Is K’tusha the female okapi pregnant then?
Shame about Stuma, leaving Chester with 3.1

I assume so however secret life of the zoo did confirm that another female was on its way howbeber didn’t confirm any dates.

I’m still wondering when approx will K’tusha at Chester will give birth, I thought she was due a few weeks back, though I may be wrong.
