If i heard the vet right on the TV, he just said they'll leave the contraceptive in for a year, so perhaps they'll attempt breeding then?

I feel that the two failed attempts for breeding so fa, have put doubt in the studbook keepers view (which chester are the keepers for). Also if i remember it right it was mentioned that the studbook keeper had told them not to attmept breeding again, for the time being.

episode 6 synopsis
- cheetah enclosure being built and landscaped with the cheetahs due to arrive soon
- update on the penguin chicks again
- sofia, the jaguar gets a contraceptive (no breeding due to a medical issue)
- the tapirs go for a swim
- the ants are prevented from escaping by adding washing up liquid into the water moat

The outdoor enclosure Sofia was in, was that an offshow enclosure, looked very bare to me.

The moat round the ants, was mentioned to be part of a larger pond in the house, and was shown to contain fish, i take it they blocked this part of the pond off, before adding washing up liquid.

Not sure about the south American enclosure mix:confused:, tapir, capybara and vicuna, surely the vicuna should not be in there, or all said the tapir and capybara perhaps should be removed as they are from different habitats and different areas of the continent.

Nope its on-show area, only viewable from a ten metre strip to the left of the house.

They only showed the backend of the enclosure, the public end is a bit more planted up.

However this area is supposed to represent a savannah grassland.

the enclosure Sofia was in, was the savannah outdoor section (on-show as well). The grass is usually longer and thicker than that though...

If you look carefully, you could see a barrier around the base of the trunk for the ants, so the fish are seperated.

actually i like the mix

Re Leaf-cutter ants and fish - I did not see any fish in either the pool surrounding the ants or on the other side of the path on my visit to Chester Zoo in September . Washing-up liquid in the water would explain that !

Why catman?

not sure for some reson i dont no
i like seeing them run around together?
to make it more natural they could:
put tapir and capy in current enclosure
put the gunacos and vicuna in rheas enclosure
then there (in my eyes)
are 3 options for the rheas:
-In with the bears (what do people think?)
-inn withh the tapir
-leave?

Also, woudnt the Guanaco and Vicuna produce hybrids. I also believe the orginal plan was for the Guanacos to leave the collection and be replaced by the Vicuna, obviously this didnt happen.

Guanaco were found a new home but never went due to internal politics.
