I've gone hiking with friends several times over the last few days. Wildlife watching wasn't the primary goal, but I sure had a good time, and was glad to see a few new animals here and there.

Think of it simply as a collection of personal lists, rather than a competition to make the biggest list.

We make jokes in the thread about people "winning" or "being in the lead" or (especially for @LaughingDove) "being disqualified from the competition because he is seeing too many birds and mammals and why doesn't he just stop already?!" but it is just for fun. There are no losers, but everyone is a winner..

The key thing to take away from this post is that in years where @Chlidonias is stuck in New Zealand, there are no losers and everyone's a winner. In other years there are losers, but only in years where that category doesn't firmly include him :D (as it does this year :p)
