Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2018

They state on a later episode of animal park that they hope to create a northern x southern white rhino calf

They haven't been injected with Northern White Rhino semen at all. Its far more complicated than that - the Scientists from Berlin have been over and retrieved eggs from the two oldest females, Mrashi and Razina. They've also been at least two other zoos on the continent to do the same thing. Those eggs have been taken back to Germany and attempts are being made to artificially fertilise the eggs with semen from Sudan. The fertilised eggs (embryo/s) would then be put back into a female Southern White Rhino... But *if* successful then it will probably take several more years to achieve

In the case of the Eland - Dvur Kralove was written on the door of the stable. Plus he arrived in Dvur Kralove's lorry.. no idea about the Penguin's origin.

*SPOILERS*

Today's episode (I'll just post about them as they're aired to avoid spoilers for those who don't have access to Iplayer) mentioned the birth of 5 Rothschild Giraffes since Summer 2017. All 5 calves are male. Named Reggie, Ronnie, Trimpy, Rudy and Sheldon.

Rudy was born to a female called Nora. Sheldon is the youngest and Reggie the oldest

Trimpy should have been Shrimp.

Apart from Kaiser who I know died last year, what has happened to the other males born ? Do they go abroad ? Males that I know of that have been born are:

Henry DOB 2007 Kwaheri x Imogen
Lewa DOB 2011 Doto x Gertrude
? DOB 2011 Doto x Twiza or Ella
Noah DOB 2013 Doto x Becky
Percy DOB 2015 Thorn x Gertrude

Is there a studbook that can be accessed online so I can find these answers rather than clogging up Zoochat ?

Today's episode of Animal Park - confirmation that the European Wolves will replace the Timbers.

A second female European Elk arrived - Google reveals she came down from the Scottish Deer Centre

Can someone give me information on the safari bus as we are going on the bus next Tuesday because we don't want our car damaged by the monkeys.

The lions Simba & Klaus are mixed with their sisters

Nyota
Jazeera
Enzi
Nala
Tanya
Kianya
Eve

So it would appear some of the lionesses have potentially passed away or moved off show

I visited today. It was so busy there, which is good but I assume it was a combination of school holidays, visiting straight after Animal Park has been on TV and a Monday being one of the days everyone leaves Centre Parcs and visits Longleat before heading home.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned and apologies if so but I was told a group of Colobus Monkeys will be introduced to Nico’s Island in the next 3 weeks.

Also, the Koala exhibit will be located between the Lorikeets and the Bird Show and will open in Spring 2019.

I know this could be a long shot but when someone visits the foot safari, if there are any hoof stock keepers around could you get an update on Becky the giraffe for me please ? It would be great to know how she is doing, thanks

As the current pair are quite old, what’s the long term plan for hippos at the park?
I’m sure I read that it will be unlikely they can house hippos on the lake in future. ( if they play to carry on with them at all)
It was something to do with the sea lions and it being unlikely any new hippo would tolerate them.
