Movie review rant 2018

It turns out Phoenix's uncle is actually working with the elephant poachers and was using his power in the conservation community to avoid areas where they were working. His Uncle ends up catching Poacher Dude at the end of the movie say "I'm done with you" but other than that, it's not really brought up again. Kind of a shame, it could have been used way better.

An Elephant's Journey
4.5/10

This movie follows the story of a bad teenage actor - I'm sorry, I mean a teenage boy named Phoenix - who lived in the US until both his parents die in the military. He then moves to South Africa to live with his aunt and uncle. He then gets lost in the African bush after chasing a Meerkat (somehow his uncle didn't notice). In the bush he meets a wild elephants and befriends it.

This movies has bad acting and the characters all make stupid decisions. You will be asking yourself questions like "Why does this kid think he can ride a wild bull elephant?", "Why does the thermal imaging camera not see Phoenix?", and "Why did the poacher not see Phoenix steal his gun?".

There is a plot twist they introduce halfway through the move, then never acknowledge again. It seems like they cut all the scenes that had to do with it.

In the end, the movie attempts to send a conservation message, and fails spectacularly.

However, some parts of this movies are cheesy in a way you can make fun of. If you have a group of people who all like animals and cheesy movies (like maybe a ZooChat meetup), this is an okay movie to watch. But I recommend NEVER to watch it by yourself.

Put the plot twist info. in a spoiler section :p

I'd never heard of this and a quick Google reveals the film doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry! I was surprised to see Liz Hurley is in it, maybe that makes it worth a watch? ;)

Don't know how to make a spoiler.

Liz Hurley also does bad acting.

The only really cool thing about the movie (I think) is that the elephants are real, trained animals. If so, that makes the movie kind of cool.

Apparently in some countries it was released under the title "Phoenix Wilder and the Great Elephant Adventure". That might help you find more info.

Sherlock Gnomes

I have watched this film twice recently and don't remember much about it, so that isn't the best start for a review.
In its defence the film has some great vocal talent, but it's a shame it is let down by an awful script, and (in my opinion) some terrible animation. If you're expecting something along the same lines as Gnomeo & Juliet then forget it, this is far worse.
I can't think of any redeeming features. The only reason I'm giving it a score that isn't a negative is because Ozzy Osbourne is always a win and my daughter (for reference she's 5) thoroughly enjoyed it both times she watched it

My personal opinion; Avoid unless necessary... even if you enjoyed the first one.

Okay, who's watched he new Avengers:Endgame trailer? Everybody excited? And anyone got any theories? Same goes for the Captain Marvel trailer, which I was excited for, until the Avengers popped up... ;)
I watched them yesterday, or the day before ... can't remember now.

The Avengers trailer is okay; pretty gloomy though. Could have done with a Led Zeppelin song :p

The Captain Marvel trailer is awful. It looks like Green Lantern except they've replaced Ryan Reynolds with a bland blonde chick and decided to make it as a tv special instead of a big-budget movie.

I agree, I thought giving half the trailer to a Tony Stark monologue was a bit of a cop out, I was hoping for a bit more of life after the snap. But hey, I'm just glad that they've released a trailer, finally! ;)

I was really looking forward to Captain Marvel but the lacklustre trailer, along with the Endgame trailer coming out, has really dampened my enthusiasm for it. And shoving Jude Law in it just makes me lose yet more interest, if he only had a small part I could look past it but he's got second billing... I just don't like him! ;)

p.s. I watched that last Avengers movie again a while ago, and I liked it a lot better the second time than I did the first time. Still not as good as Thor Ragnarok though.

Anybody else seen the trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie? It looks like it could be quite a fun one to watch.

Some of the Pokémon in it do look genuinely unsettling, but casting Ryan Reynolds as the voice for Pikachu was a stroke of genius.

Most people actually wanted Danny Devito for the movie, but seeing pikachu sound like Deadpool is still brilliant.

I think the movie will be vary visually stunning, but I am not so sure about the plot.

Also, why is this movie not called "Pikachu P.I."?

I just watched the trailer again ... still bleh. So much Green Lantern spilled all over the screen...

If you want to see a worse-looking superhero trailer though - Aquaman. I can't decide whether it would suck being an actor in a movie like that, or be great. Spending six weeks just standing around in front of a green-screen would be a real trial, but on the other hand you're getting paid heaps of money just to stand around in front of a green-screen for six weeks.

But on the other hand DC/WB do have a decent superhero trailer out at the moment... Shazam looks absolutely brilliant! It looks like they've got the hint that people want humour in their superhero movies, and I love Zachary Levi, he was brilliant as Chuck and since then hasn't really had too many big roles. The padding looks a bit sh*t on his costume but other than that it looks quality.
