Movie review rant 2018

Ah, that cat. I just took it as a regular lion, Panthera leo, as I can't see any protruding teeth. Maybe is just my bad sight.

I saw Aquaman last night. I thought it was visual-wise arresting and stunning. I feel some of the characters could've been expanded on (Vulko comes to mind), but otherwise good. 8.3/10

IThat said, honestly think the execs shouldn't do anything Marvel's doing to keep things different.

@Batto and @Brum I think we should wait until the movie actually comes out before writing it off as "just another overhyped, yet inherently bland superhero movie, with the titular character as just another version of the "Strong Independent Mary Sue stereotype". It could be that, or it could not be. The trailers have not helped nor have Kevin Feige's comments about making her the most powerful character in the MCU off the bat and vital to Thanos' defeat when we haven't even seen her once yet, but that doesn't necessarily ensure the movie will be bad. I have no issues with her being overpowered, Thor and the Hulk are and always have been, but I want to see real character development done here to show why we should care about her as well as an explanation as to why she is so powerful. The lack of these two things are what have largely left me disconnected with recent characters such as Rey in the recent StarWars episodic films. From trailers I think we will receive an acceptable answer to the latter, but as for the former we'll have to wait and see. My main concern is that they'll end up making her the key to defeat Thanos as they've eluded to in the past. I think this would be a horrible mistake, simply because we don't know her and are not connected to her. She has not suffered the same loss as our other heros at Thanos' hand and as such she does not "deserve" to be the one to defeat him. Narratively it makes for an unsatisfying story, especially when we're followed the other characters for up to a decade and are emotionally connected with them. This is their finale, let them shine. Maybe Captain Marvel will come out and everyone will fall in love with her, but I doubt that and I doubt they can build her character up in just one movie.

I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming film, I hope Marvel does not let me down.

I can wholeheartedly agree with this assessment, I found it to be a surprisingly good movie and definitely my favourite of the DCEU so far. Visually it’s indeed amazing, better even than Infinity War, although I would agree that character development was a bit lacklustre.

@ThylacineAlive: if you have to quote me, then please do it properly - even if you're smitten by my words. ;)
I used to not judge movies by their trailers, but since modern movies tend to unveil pretty much the whole story (and given previous "experiences" with feminist superheroines), my expectations regarding Captain Marvel are very, very low.

But maybe that other Captain Marvel movie will be better ;).

The only problem with that is Captain Marvel comes out too close to Endgame, and I get the feeling certain plot elements will carry over. Unless CinemaSins manage to lay their hands on a time machine or a bootleg copy then I'm going to have to pay... :(;)
Why don't you just do what I do - not care.
