Auckland zoo has baby lace moniters. They have began breeding them this year with 26 being born! Two were sent to Wellington zoo whilst two were sent to Ti point reptile park in New Zealand whilst the majority were sent to Europe and North America.

BTW: Eagerly expectant for another batch of Galapagos tortoise eggs to hatch (just wishful thinking)!

The next rhino move will probably and most likely be male Inkosi out as related to female Jamila.

Inkosi and Jamila are unrelated (both born to wild born parents/founders):

Inkosi (2002) - Zambezi (1991) x Caballe (1995)
Jamila (2012) - Kruger (1989) x Moesha (1994)

However Auckland Zoo needs to do something as males can only remain together in a bachelor herd cohesively without the presence of females; and I believe females are largely unsuccessful in breeding when not in a herd situation (i.e. a 1.1 pair) so I'm predicting a transfer of at least one more female to Auckland Zoo. Imani (2007) apparently isn't breeding at Hamilton Zoo, so it's a shame that she can't be tranferred to Auckland (Zambezi and Inkosi are her father and brother).

Zambezi failed to breed with Moesha and Kito at Hamilton Zoo so I doubt they'll try this combination again. The most likely scenario in my opinion is that Zambezi will remain at Auckland to breed with Jamila and an unrelated female; Inkosi will go to Hamilton Zoo to breed with Moesha and Kito; and Kruger will be transferred to Orana Wildlife Park. Just my guess/opinion of what could work.

Following on from this, the indoor areas for the orangutan and saimang will contain a bio-floor. The floor will be made from special organic wood chips to create a deep composting mulched floor. A spray system will keep the floor damp and an air-con will keep the atmosphere warm which will create the right humidity to help the bio-organism’s in the bio-floor.

This has already been successfully done in the Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago’s Gorilla habitat. It would be a great sight to see it working at Auckland zoo!
 
Jamila has finally arrived at Auckland Zoo:

Hamilton Zoo's white rhino has moved north to Auckland

Jamila is now getting used to her new home and Auckland Zoo's Curator of Mammals Warren Spencer said the team is excited to introduce her to visitors and male rhinos Zambezi and Inkosi.

"We are very happy to finally be welcoming her to Auckland Zoo, with our hope, in due course, she will be able to contribute to the Regional Breeding Programme for her species," Spencer said.

Jamila is the daughter of Hamilton Zoo's male Kruger and female Moesha and was born at the zoo in March 2012.

Hamilton Zoo Ungulates Team Leader Aaron Gilmore said that while Jamila will be missed but it's a positive move.

"The regional captive breeding programme of southern white rhinos is carefully managed to maximise the gene pool and ensure an appropriate population is maintained.

"We've had exceptional success with our rhino breeding with seven calves born here, and Jamila's move to Auckland Zoo offers the chance for her to pair up and continue to increase the gene pool," Gilmore said.

Hamilton Zoo have been trying to ensure the transition was as smooth as possible after the previous attempt.

"Jamila had been progressing well with her crate training leading up to the September date, but decided on the day she wasn't in the mood."

Excellent. The only other time these have been kept in NZ is at Wellington Zoo from 2008 to 2013.

Hopefully she's found soon. I love how the birds are given the oppotunity to stretch their wings (as opposed to being confined to a cage their whole lives). To see the Andean condors soaring above the city of Sydney must be an increadible sight; though it's a scary thought that such a valuable animal is let loose at the same time! Once these ones are gone, there won't be anymore.

Hope this bird is found soon. I agree, free-flight bird shows are excellent and very beneficial opportunities for birds.
The bird shows at Australia Zoo and Currumbin are excellent. The Andean Condor at Australia Zoo was certainly memorable.
