I'm assuming most of you have finished midterms. I don't know about you guys but I'm super happy they're out of the way. I finished my last two today.

I'm still in middle school, though I take high school math, so I have exams. But thank the lords exams are over! It's sad though because I didn't finish my exam because the class periods were shorter yesterday (not the whole school takes exams, plus we had an early dismissal).

Here is a sad fact for you guys: Question 55 on my history final was "In 2018, how many states are in the United States of America?" You'd think this would be an easy question, but nope, 10 kids got it wrong (6 in my period and 4 in another period).

I’ve never understood high school and middle school in America. Is middle school the same as primary school?

That is impressively sad.

I have my final in the middle of January for some reason, so they're not over yet.

A quick breakdown of American education:
We have 13 grades: kindergarten and 1 through 12th grade (there is also preschool but that is optional)
It goes like this:
  • Elementary school is kindergarten through 5th or 6th grade
  • Middle school is 6 to 9, 6 to 8, 7 to 8, or 7 to 9 (mine was 7 to 8)
  • High School is either 9 to 12 or 10 to 12 depending on how you middle school was
  • It would appear your primary is most similar to our elementary school

@aardvark250 By finals we mean mid-finals or midterms which are in the middle of the school year
I think what he is asking is, "how is December the middle of your school year?". Does your school year not follow an actual year (i.e. January to December)?

Oh, well I don't know about these guys but my school year goes from late August to early June. To my knowledge, that's how most (but not all) American schools are

Private schools in the US will typically go kindergarten-8th grade. Then 9-12 for High School. Though some will go kindergarten-12th grade.
I'm glad you recognize how sad that ignorance is (50 states). Don't wish to open a can of politics but American education has been steadily deteriorating since the 50s (or even sooner), and its not an accident.

Yes, generally August/September (depending on the part of the country) to June.

Good point, I should of specified but I was referring to public schools. Also yes I've been having to deal with quite a bit of ignorance in my school years (this year in particular). Somethings are understandable, but not knowing America has fifty states, when you are a citizen of the U.S. that was born in the U.S. and have lived your entire life in the U.S. is kind of just sad.

There was a study done where they asked US citizens what was the 51st state. Although many people said "the US only has 50 states", other common answers were "Hawaii", "Puerto Rico", and "New Mexico".

Then again, there was that whole thing with the New Mexico marriage licence in DC.

Yes I asked one of the kids what he thought the 51st state was and he responded "Hawaii."

How is it the final?Do you start your school in April?

Public school years are typically divided into two semesters: August/September-January/February and January/February-June. If you have a class that is only one semester (so half the school year), your final would be in January or February depending on your particular school.
