People really wanted to see bears in the UK last year!

I'm more concerned over how many people want to buy baby echidnas!

And how that search led them onto zoochat.... along with tapir pronounciation.

Probably slightly related results from the various exotic species seen on the pet trade threads as well as the undoubted mention of puggles.

If I recall correctly, we had a thread on animal pronunciation once- or maybe it was just an isolated conversation? Or perhaps it was in the old chatroom I don't know.

Where is Boardman and how the heck does it rank 16th in the world?

I suspect it is here: Boardman, Oregon - Wikipedia

... and the only reason it features so high in the list is that one of the Amazon AWS datacentres is based there - so there are a lot of websites and web services around the world which will appear to the outside world as being from Boardman - when in reality, they are just cloud services running on AWS.

Also, @ThylacineAlive makes a lot of comments on his own photos with extra information about the photo (which is absolutely fine!) which will be why he has some many comments.

Once I get the new version of the website operational, and we can do new comments searches, I expect comment volumes to increase again closer to where they were pre-2017.

There may be more people from the US visiting the site than the UK, and more people from China visiting than from Australia - but people in the UK interact with the site more than the US and lots of people interact more with the site than people from China.
I'd always suspected about China, but I find myself a lot more surprised than I know I rationally should be that there are more US Visits than UK, with how extraordinarily active that section of the community is here. It's frequently commented about geographic reasons, even with Toronto which is a much more dramatic example of many similar factors, but I do find it worth observing that the ZooChat community in the UK is close-knit and has a much more common set of social language and shorthand, which I think encourages a lot more back-and-forth posting than we have in our sections, which often become fragmented based on home region. As an American, I mean all of this with only the utmost respect and jealousy. :)

On a similar note, I think this a big reason for the high number of visits from Chicago, and consequently, Brookfield being a common home zoo despite lacking the national recognition of so many other American facilities, usually only cracking top ten lists here rarely as an underdog or personal favorite. I suspect that having three major zoological institutions as opposed to one invites a bit more comparison and reflection - being able to see seals and sea lions exhibited three different ways within the same city invites that kind of interest towards different ways to exhibit a little more than in town where there is only the one city zoo, no matter how excellent.

Evidently I don't post or comment enough here, but I suppose it usually stops me from making a complete dummy out of myself.

Very much down to a two horse race now on mobile devices.
WiiU and 3DS? I own both of those but I've never used one to access ZooChat...

Internet is terribly slow on both those devices, so I'm not sure why anyone would use them bar the occasional YouTube video.

Woohoo! I made the top 5!

Also, @ThylacineAlive makes a lot of comments on his own photos with extra information about the photo (which is absolutely fine!) which will be why he has some many comments.

Yeah I've just never really liked the small and faint description text that appears under the title. To me a regular comment is easier to read/notice and it also then gets added to that "new comments" section which sometimes brings in a few extra people who might have missed that an interesting photo was uploaded.

I look forward to an improved gallery/commenting section!

I suspected it was something like this - and FWIW I agree, the current description is a PITA, I should really have spent some time to fix that up ages ago.

Definitely will be improvements there in the next version.
