AZA Phase-In and Phase-Out Species

I've been really curious about what species are being phased in and out of the AZA, so I wanted to know if anyone knew what they were and thought we could discuss it.

There’s an old thread that’s still pretty accurate: Phase out species in United States

It’s important to note that phase ins and outs are merely recommendations, designed to allow program animals to have the space that they need to have self-sustaining populations. Many of the species designated as phase out are still kept and even bred, although some are programs by a particular institution (such as the sloth at DWA).

Thanks for sharing that topic with me!

You know what I find a shame? That so many vulnerable to endangered species are on phase out.

Agreed, and many interesting ones as well. However, many of the phase out species are barely present in the AZA... And for many of them the chances of getting more individuals to boost the population is pretty low... :(
