Common Zoo Species You Haven't Seen

Interesting thread, while only been to a handful of zoos, I cannot think of anything I have not seen in the common animal stakes...other than maybe beaver but not sure they are common here in UK.

Helps having Chester as your home zoo and been to most large zoo in the UK and a few in on the continent.

I am quite sure that I have never seen a real European polecat, neither in zoos nor in the wild. For the rest it seems I have seen basically all of the 2000 most common species according to zootierliste, excluding subspecies limited to either Iberia or the UK.

The big one for me are Asiatic black bears. I've seen every other species of bear and I've been to zoos that used to hold them but I keep missing them. Hopefully I'll see them before they're completely phased out.

Wolverines are another one I haven't seen live, though I have seen multiple museum specimens of them.

If you do make it to Rhode Island then you should see their pair, though it might not be the best zoo. If you miss them there and really want one there's a really old animal at Lupa Zoo in Massachusetts.

I've never seen a live American Wolverine, though I've seen a good few European.

The closest zoo to Chicago with Asian Black Bears is the Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo.

The closest zoo to Chicago with Wolverines is Detroit.

Sloth bears for me. I’ve seen every other bear species. Lowland tapirs as well but they’re not super common here in the states.

Brookfield Zoo here in Chicago has had both in the past and will soon again. or maybe already has. I recall hearing they were acquiring a new Brazilian tapir but not if it arrived yet.

Visayan warty pig and American paddlefish are flourishing species abundant in European zoo, but I still never saw one of these.

I've seen Visayan warty pigs before, not the paddlefish. I am dying to see a paddlefish.

The US and Europe have different Visayan Warty Pigs. Europe has animals from Negros while the US has animals from Panay. The latter is Extinct in the Wild and is known to be quite distinct from the Negros animals, but no one's ever figured out exactly what they are.

Have been thinking about this a lot and at least found a "common" zoo-species from which I think a good number of ZooChatters will have seen it ( and I not ) : Killer whale.
During the time it was kept at a zoo within visiting-distance - in this case Dolfinarium Harderwijk - I didn't visit it. I was there before and after but not at the moment supreme :( !

Yaay, it looks like I'm officially the most starving "Well-Known Member" (thanks to my obnoxious fantasy zoo director persona 2 years ago who acomplished the amount of posts needed) zoochatter. :D
Maybe anytime soon I'll travel to North America or Europe to tick off names like any hyena, clouded leopard, snow leopard, leopard, cheetah, any asian bear, red panda, fennec fox, any non-white rhino, pygmy hippo, gorilla and many others from my list. And I'm not even gonna start with non-mammals like chameleons (:() or alligators...

I'm missing sun bear, not sure how but I am. This will be resolved before the end of March though.Clouded leopard are a species I've seen, just not doing anything exciting other than sleeping, so that's another goal, to see one move! :p

Plenty of species for me:
White-tailed eagle
Bearded vulture
Ocelot
Patas monkey
Green monkey
Golden lion-tamarin
Several species of duck
South-American sea-lion
Wels catfish
Sand tiger shark
Zebu (not really a species of-course)
Rhesus monkey

Seen lots of common species, but here's some slightly uncommon ones I have yet to see.

-Okapi
-Malayan tapir
-Lowland nyala
-Hamadryas baboon
-Siamang
-Haven't seen a Komodo dragon or an Asian elephant in years.

I have not been to a large number of zoos, yet I have seen most ‘common’ species with the exceptions of cetaceans and Baird’s Tapir. There are a large number of common species(such as Pumas,Polar Bears and Clouded Leopards)which I have only seen one or two times.
