Personally I hope not! I'd hate to see this become a new "norm" in American zoos! I wonder how the hippos will react to this? And the birds!

It's like the watched the last Madagascar! movie and decided to make it a reality.
I don't know where the birds will go after the renovation, their trees seem to be occupied by large spaceships. Also, if it's going to be dark I don't feel like the birds would do well in that space. Would be sad if they got rid of them, as they're my favorite part of that exhibit.
The porcupines should do just fine though, and get lots of enrichment from the weird lighting.

In all seriousness, and I have had difficulty scraping myself off the floor to write this, how much will this nonsense cost? I'm tempted to say that I think somebody in marketing there needs to be crated up in a secure box, fast.

Excellent question about cost. Really who would pay for this kind of amphibian licking insanity? Look at the plans and say ok thats worth the price... Forget the person who dreamed this neon nightmare up, who was the person who said wow lets go for it. WOW! Must be good amphibian slime.
But maybe groundskeeper is on to something... will the hippos be dancing around on a high wire with giraffes like in Madagascar 3? Will there be sea lions and zebras being shot out of cannons? Lions and jaguars doing trapez americano? Elephants twisting around on curtains? Dogs strapped to rocket skates? Or a tigers spinning through rings of fire smaller than a wedding ring? Dont even get me started on the hyjinx the penguins will get into. Because if the exhibit is being designed to meet those needs well then they did a perfect design job and we will all be blown away by the exhibit.

It's been gone for several years, it was thankfully short lived.
...WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? I'd imagine not only was this stressful to Button and Genny, but it's downright heinous to look at! Thank all that is holy and sacred they went back to the original naturalism. (Now if only they'd gut the concrete land area and replace with grass and replace the roof with a retractable ETFE dome, then we could have something)
The owners of this aquarium also own the Newport Aquarium and I do not recall anything similar to this ever happening there.
