New Guinea ground cuscus have arrived at Hamerton and are living off-show currently. They, and the common ringtail possums, will be moving on-show over the summer.
Also, the generic common brush-tailed possums and Queensland silver-grey brushtail possums have produced their first offspring. The silver-grey brushtails are possibly the first of their variety seen in the UK for 100 years and they too live off-show.

And Hamerton are confirmed to be holding the IZES meeting again this year, 3rd of August is the date for your diary.
Finally an event I have a chance to attend!
London Zoo acquired two silver-grey possums in 1954 as part of a large consignment of Australian fauna donated to the ZSL to commemorate Queen Elizabeth's visit to Australia.

I'm experiencing dejavu here ... were ZSL's ever on display?
The Queeen's Australian Collection was on display in a special exhibition and the ZSL issued a separate guidebook for this.
To the best of my knowledge the silver-grey possums were on show but I was only one year old at the time.....
Same age as me then (department of irrelevant data)

Don't forget Hamerton is open until 5.30pm from tomorrow, so given clocks go forward as well, a lot of later appearing animals will be a lot more showy from like 3pm onwards for the next few weeks, so a good chance to get a couple of hours to view them, so this time of year definitely worth a visit.
Visited today, couple things of note:
The Reptile house was fenced off. When we walked past a second time the sign had been taken down.
The second civet enclosure (next to the Grison) contained two Parma wallabies, so not sure the civet was in there....
Sadly didn't see the golden possums or the baby possum, although did see a hand!

Hmm, the reptile house did have a notice saying it was being cleaned on friday. I guessed the wallabies were just in the civet enclosure to chew away the overgrown grass.
Could be, very odd though if that's the case.

There were a couple in with the potoroos a while back toroo
I visited Hamerton on Thursday morning (hoping to see the elusive Wombats - still not joy!) but instead had the delight of seeing the Brush Tailed Possum joey
A group of primary school children were there in the Outback Aviary too so I was somewhat overwhelmed by their enthusiasm so didn't manage to get the shot I really wanted but never the less it was fantastic to see them both out and about. I went back later a couple of times but they were both well hidden. A lucky moment for me (and the kids!) I think!
There was some excavations going in next to the Tayra / Lynx enclosure so not sure what that is going to be. They are still working on the new cafe but by the look of it it's not going to be ready for Easter.

Reptile house now has another display case against the back wall, awaiting a new species.
Saw lovely big Golden possum and the baby common one too; both after 4pm feeding
