Very long movies

I have to laugh at people on social media losing their minds over the fact that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame will be just over 3 hours long (3 hours and 1 minute to be precise).

Kids these days have no idea what long movies are! :p

Long movies I've seen in the cinema:
  • Dances with Wolves: 3 hr 1min (Kevin Costner does long movies!)
  • Wyatt Earp: 3 hr 11 min (Kevin Costner again!)
  • Titanic: 3 hr 14 min
  • Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: 3 hr 21 min
Other recently released long movies I didn't see in the cinema:
  • The Wolf of Wall Street: 3 hr
  • Pearl Harbor: 3 hr 3 min
  • King Kong: 3 hr 7 min (the 2005 Naomi Watts & Jack Black version)
  • The Hateful Eight: 3 hr 7 min
  • JFK: 3 hr 9 min (Kevin Costner!!)
  • The Green Mile: 3 hr 9 min
  • Nixon: 3 hr 12 min
  • Schindler's List: 3 hr 15 min
  • Malcolm X: 3 hr 22 min

Some very good films in that list.

Ironically one of my favourite films as a child The NeverEnding Story is only 1 hr 34 mins.

We're talking mainstream cinema releases here - I don't think the Baa Baa Land or Modern Times Forever qualify here.

It's not just about picking the longest random movie you can find in IMDb - it's about picking long movies that people actually go and see.

To actually address the issue at hand, the longest film I have seen in the cinema is Return of the King - the length of which has already been mentioned :P but the longest film I have seen full-stop is the 1996 Kenneth Branagh adaptation of Hamlet, at 4 hrs 2 mins.

I do indeed think it's kind of funny how people are freaking out over Avenger's run time. And at least some kids these days know what longs movies are because while I've never seen any of the movies on your list in theaters, I have seen quite a few of them in one sitting without any form of break.

There is a difference between not needing to go to the bathroom and not being able to go to the bathroom.

There's no choice of a pause button in the cinema! :p

... and of course being a Marvel movie, you know there is going to be a post credit scene, so you have to stay right until the curtain closes. Lots of people got caught out by Captain Marvel - leaving after the first mid-credit scene and not waiting until the very end for the second post-credit scene!

Longest movie I've seen in theaters during the last few years was Blade Runner 2049, coming in at 2 hours 44 minutes. The Kenneth Branagh Hamlet is the longest I've ever seen, though it felt much longer.

I'd honestly wish endgame would be longer than 3 hours. But that's because I really like long movies :p
