Animals You've Seen That Few Zoochatters Have Seen

There will be more than four as they seem to be a bit more common amongst roadside zoos, rescue centers, and private bear keepers, but yeah they're still pretty rare.

What roadside zoos?

These are the four holders I was thinking of: Wildwood Zoo, Toledo, Alaska, Space Farms.

Well Space Farms is pretty much a roadside zoo. I don't know which other specifically but Space Farms got them from another, as did the private rescue center Orphan Wildlife in NY (which also one of the few places that keeps Syrian Brown Bear). Space Farms also bred their Kodiaks with the intention of selling them to other zoos. I said "seems to be" because I do not know for certain, but they certainly appear to be a bit more present than one would initially think, but still not common by any means and maybe not present much at all in the actual zoo world.

One I can think of and I have mentioned it many years ago, is African x Asian elephant at Chester Zoo. He survived for 11 days. I think another zoochatter also saw him but I can't remember who it was.

This isn’t all but off the top of my head I can think of:
Swift fox? -Rotterdam, tabernas
Ruppell’s Fox - tabernas
Bandford’s Fox - tabernas
Tasmanian golden possum - hamerton
Southern black backed jackal - plzen (outside)
East African bat eared fox - plzen (outside)
Common striped possum - plzen
Alpine field mouse - plzen
Ethiopian eagle owl - rodbaston
Lilith owl - Scottish owl centre
Barred eagle owl - Berlin tierpark
Zorilla - cedar’s nature centre

I am one of the few unfortunate ZooChatters to have spotted the rarest and more feared beast of them all: Rob's knees o_O:confused:

Are these normally indoors? They were both outside on my visit.

What is this whole thing with knees? I've seen it referenced elsewhere on this site...

Knees represent a pair of joints found in the leg, connecting the femur and tibia, and the femur and patella.

The foot bone's connected to the- leg bone. The bone's connected to the- knee bone. The knee bone's connected to the- thigh bone. Doing the skeleton dance!

I just wondered because they were the only ones I’d ever seen outside.

Proboscis monkeys?

I saw the ones at Chimelong Safari Park and only just realising that I'd never seen them anywhere else. I guess because they're so easily recognisable that I thought they were quite common, but I don't think they are?

They aren't common, but there would be a lot of Zoochatters who have seen them because a lot of Zoochatters have been to Singapore, plus there were some in the Netherlands until recently.

None in Europe now, none in America, only zoorasia and Chimelong outside of South East Asia.

Older zoochatters will remember Proboscis also at Twycross, Frankfurt and (I think it was) Basel(?) zoos in earlier decades too
