Doesn't really have to do with exhibit quality; it has to do with the tigress death back in February. A lot of people just seem to think that any animal death in a zoo means the zoo did something wrong.
Agreed, I haven't been for a few weeks, has anyone seen if Asim is looking more settled yet?

The 2019 inventory is finally on the website.
Looks like the collection has declined considerably since last year!!
There are a lot of single sex species of birds, a dozen less bird species on last year. The woolly necked stork chick from last year seems to have gone, no male Harrier Hawk, looks like 2 Hyacinth Macaw chicks, single sex Toco and Red-Biiled Toucans, Black Hornbill, Blue Bellied Rollers, Edwards Pheasants, Sun Bittern, all of which have bred regularly in the past.
No female Malayan Tapir...
Whipsnade seems to be very low on Antelopes and White Rhino...

Where in the zoo is the goodfellows tree kangaroo and Whipsnade have had 5 white rhino for some time now
Unfortunately, the Goodfellow's tree kangaroo is off-exhibit; it is housed "behind the scenes" in the Clore Pavilion.
Actually, if you check the Animal Inventory for previous years, 2019 is the first year since 2011 when only five white rhinos are listed.

For Whipsnade there are some interesting ungulate records; Axis deer no longer listed so must have definately gone, Roan, Blesbok, Kudu and Bongo etc are all now single sex and reduced into the 1-3 animals category, STILL no male blackbuck 3-4 years after importing new females.... O.9 Hog deer and it seems all these species will dwindle away to nothing as time passes unless fresh infusions are made. Only 3 female Wisent, while sadly the 1.0 American bison is already no more.
Do you mean the African Harrier Hawk? Pretty sure I saw two in the aviary near the Diana Monkeys two weeks ago. The piano-wires had been tied with pieces of hazard tape, with a sign saying these were to help a new bird (no species mentioned specifically) settle in and get used to the aviary boundaries. Maybe a new bird arrived since the inventory was taken?

From what I saw today in the aviary are 2 African Harrier Hawks, 1 sacred Ibis, the 2 kites that were living in the Snowdon Aviary plus the male & female woolly storks. I believe the Caracas have left.

are the London Zoo hippos a breeding pair?
They are male and female, but pretty sure no calves have resulted and they must have been together 10 years plus

That’s a shame maybe nikki can move to Whipsnade as a mate for tapon
Probably better to find a new female from elsewhere I would suggest
London Zoo's current pygmy hippos have been together more than twenty years; the female has been at London Zoo since 1997 and the male arrived in 1998. Sadly no calves have been born to this pair.
Thanks for the confirmation Tim, I therefore stand by my previous suggestion that there is no point in moving the female to Whipsnade

Does anybody have an idea of what will be going in the now empty anteater enclosure? I understand the anteaters have been moved to an ‘off-show’ paddock behind the giraffes. I will be visiting in early May having not been for nearly 5 years!
Also does anybody know when the full aquarium is due to be closed (I am hoping it will still be open when I visit to enjoy it one last time!).

Not sure if any decision has actually been made about the vacant anteater enclosure. However, when you are walking round the zoo, stand on the bridge by the giraffes and look to your right, you may catch a glimpse of anteaters.
If you are visiting the zoo in May, you will still be able to enter the aquarium but some parts are already closed off
