Movie review rant 2019

Uhhhhh......... at least it has Jim Carry *shrugs shoulders*

I don't understand. This is 2019! Why is there a Sonic The Hedgehog movie? Does anyone even know what that is anymore? Why is Jim Carrey in it - does anyone even know who that is anymore? But most of all, why are they playing Gangsta's Paradise?!? Why is the world so wrong?

Copied from my post in a Marvel Facebook group:

For anyone who hasn't seen, the official numbers are in! Avengers: Endgame has smashed records with a domestic opening weekend of $357million, beating out the previous record holder (Avengers: Infinity War) by exactly $100million.

It also holds the following domestic box office records:
-Largest Thursday preview gross ($60million)
-Largest Friday gross ($156.7million)
-Largest Saturday gross ($109million); previously IW
-Largest Sunday gross ($84.3million); previously IW
-Widest release (4,662 theaters)
-#1 movie market share (the percentage of individual screens playing the movie at once) at 90%; previously Age of Ultron at 84.5%
-Largest general opening
-Largest April opening; previously IW
-Largest Spring opening; previously IW
-Largest PG-13 opening; previously IW
-Largest single day gross
-Largest three day gross; previously IW
-Fastest to $100million (1 day)
-Fastest to $150million (1 day); previously IW
-Fastest to $200million (2 days); previously IW
-Fastest to $250million (3 days); previously IW
-Fastest to $300million (3 days)
-Fastest to $350million (3 days)

For international* records:
-Fastest to $500million (3 days); previously IW (5 days)
-Fastest to $1billion (5 days); previously IW (11 days)
-Fastest to $1.5billion (8 days); previously IW (18 days)
-Largest worldwide opening ($1.2billion)
-#1 opening weekend in 44 countries

*The movie opened internationally on April 24, though some countries did not get the movie until up to April 29.

The movie is currently already the 5th highest grossing film of all time, sitting at $1.7billion worldwide. This puts the MCU's overall gross at roughly $20.4billion, making it the most successful franchise in the world-- crushing Star Wars, the second highest, with $9.2billion. The movie also needs to make an additional $1.1billion to take the #1 highest grossing film spot, currently held by Avatar at just below $2.8billion.

On another Marvel note, Captain Marvel grossed another $10million worldwide over the weekend, putting it at #2 at the box office (so Marvel owned the #1 and #2 spots) and as the 24th highest grossing film of all time at $1.1billion.

I suspect I am one of the few :p

Sonic looks like he could be a critter for the new millennium, he's terrifying. What the hell happened to the cute little ball of the 80's?

Jim Carrey looks promising though, which isn't something I thought I would ever say again! :p

This sentence gives away the fact you've been drinking again :p ;) there's nothing redeeming about that trailer.

To be fair, I said he looks promising, nothing more. :p Other than that it's a definite no from me, but I do like Gangsta's Paradise despite the complete randomness of it being in a Sonic trailer. Unfortunately it reminds me of a much better film, and if you don't know what film that is then Google it, watch it, and thank me later! ;)

Personally, I'm more excited for the sequel: Walk.
That doesn't look interesting to me. There's a scene in that trailer - the bit where she is on counter tops above the water - which is an exact steal from Deep Blue Sea.

Ronal the Barbarian is a great movie (seriously, not sarcastically).

EDIT: I watched through the first five-ish minutes of that video - the dude doesn't "get" the movie at all! It's just funny how much he doesn't get it.

Care to explain it then?

Also, here's another one that I find crazy:

It's a parody of barbarian movies with a helping dose of heavy metal (e.g. their kingdom is called Metalonia, and the theme song is a metal barbarian version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody). That is all. It is a really funny movie. I do suspect he doesn't get the humour of the movie because it is European and he is American.

Allowing for the fact that I've only watched (parts) of two of his videos - the Ronal the Barbarian one and the El Arca one - he really just comes across as a prudish American going "Huh? OMG, there are sexy jokes in these cartoons!?! Everyone cower in fear!"

I watched Endgame yesterday, I'll just say I'm impressed and really like it.

10/10. Will watch again someday.

P.S. I'm not giving away spoilers as I don't want to potentially ruin any surprises tht the movie has.

Well he does talk about how maybe he's just not getting it towards the end of the barbarian video. I do agree he seems pretty against crude or sexual from the few videos I've watched (I only found his channel yesterday, and only watched a few of the videos with particularly odd looking movies). The main issue with El Arca, though, is that it's a Disney-owned, G-rated children's movie that has anthropomorphic animals stripping and sleeping with each other.
