My 5000th Post.

If I've got it right this should be my 5000th post on Zoochat/Zoobeat!!! It ought to be about my favourite Gorillas perhaps, but instead I thought I'd share a couple of thoughts on how 'Zoochat' has changed since I first joined it.

I remember my very first post was to ask something about the Gorillas at Melbourne Zoo. When I came across Zoobeat(as it was) it was principally an Australian site and to start with I talked mostly to our Australian friends about Melbourne and Taronga zoos (in particular). The only UK threads were for London and Chester Zoos whereas now we have threads for virtually all the main UK Zoos as well as the European and American ones, and posters now come from all over the World.

I would like to thank and congratulate Sim for the way he has developed a truly International site which he continually updates and improves. It is certainly the foremost English-speaking one. At the same time I hope that nobody feels duty bound to pay for this unless they wish to do so, as I strongly believe the exchange of 'zoo' information should continue to remain free to all and sundry and I believe that Sim agrees too.

I've also noticed in recent weeks that the UK threads have become a little 'sluggish' probably reflecting the fact we are entering the Winter period here in the UK when zoo visiting (and subsequent news) is less frequent, even for members of the Forum. Hopefully they'll pick up again, they will if we keep posting.:)

Anyway, I hope to continue exchanging zoo information with many of you out there, so happy zoo visiting and please continue posting.

Now, about those Gorillas.... ;)

Thanks for the kind words and congrats on being the first to reach 5000 posts!!

I'm not after any records but thanks anyway and again to you for setting it up.... I should have added that I've also made a lot of interesting online contacts and friends through 'Zoochat' as well.

Congratulations Pertinax!
I look forward to your 5001st post as eagerly as all the others.

Alan

How is your Encyclopaedia of Animals coming along? I'm assuming that you're using your vast knowledge to write one :)

Its been done many times.... Secret Agent Gigit , its time for you to go back 'under cover'. We need more news....

I'll dust off the deerstalker... though there's a bit of job sharing going on at the moment!

Ah, but you're definately the prime agent for the Paignton area. And I need to know what's on the menu at that fundraising bash...

AHA!!!!! I heard it ( well read it) I can't un-read it, I knew there was some secret agents going going around!!

And I need to know what's on the menu at that fundraising bash...

I believe there's a zoo-inspired buffet including:
Beef Wellington Boot
Hot wired Chilli
Chicken in a Bucket
Jumbo Sausages
Lion of Pork
King Colobus Prawns
Steak Diana Monkey
Steak & Kidney Python
Fish and Chimps
Monkey Heights Nuts
Baboon Rock (well, it is a seaside town)
Penguin Biscuits
and that old favourite, Hand Thrown Crisps

(:o I'm so sorry for all that!:o)

Congrats Pertinax! It's always interesting reading your comments on gorillas or British zoos, but you also have a lot of knowledge of zoos worldwide as well.

well thanks. I thought I was seeing things but I now see you have over 5000 photos in the Gallery. That's some achievement too.

Such a group of over-achievers! I always look forward to hearing the news from the wide zoo world. Keep up the good work everyone!
