I don't think its that much smaller than most zoos when it comes to the number of animals displayed - but what I do notice is that there are far less lawn areas and picnic areas than at most zoos. For example if you take out all of the lawn areas of Melbourne Zoo the rest that is left wouldn't be much bigger than this one.

Sydney Zoo has received a group of 4.0 Painted Dogs from Europe. They arrived from Dvur Kralove (Czech Republic) earlier this month and are currently in quarantine. It was initially reported that they were going to Taronga - but the latest photos (on Dvur Kralove's Facebook page) of them in quarantine say they are infact destined for Sydney Zoo..
Just looking at their Facebook page (no mentions of animal additions, and indeed they posted a job alert advertising for Primate Keepers 12 hours ago...) but a series of photos posted less than a week ago look like there is still lots of work to do.

They have recently welcomed baboon and three hyena from Singapore, and four male lions from Taronga Western Plains Zoo (the four brothers born in 2016).

The hyaenas in particular are fantastic news. I wonder what their sexes are? (Googling the names didn't show anything).
As far as I know there is only one female founder in the current hyaena stock in Australia (imported by Monarto in 2007, also from Singapore so probably related to these new ones anyway). Altina has long been saying they are going to import more females but I don't think anything came of that.
Akiki and Obi are male cheetahs from Monarto. Akiki was born there in 2017, while Obi was born at TWPZ in 2017 and came to Monarto in 2018.
The zebras will be from within Australia, probably either Monarto or TWPZ. If eleven chimps isn't a typo they must have been imported from Europe I'm guessing.
I just realised that Monarto's chimp troop has eleven members in it, which may not be a coincidental number.
Two male cheetahs and four male lions; I’m seeing a lot of bachelor/non breeding groups in this zoo’s future. Not unsurprising considering they’re a new zoo.
I hope the three baboons from Singapore are females; it would be the prefect opportunity for Adelaide Zoo to offload their two adolescent males, who have caused their troop so many issues.

I suspect it is. The chimps are one of the few drawcards Monarto has - I’m not sure what would prompt them to move them on.
Other big ape species perhaps (really guessing here as also the source of chimpansee for Sydney Zoo is unclear!
The chimpanzees will be from Europe, probably surplus subspecies hybrids (or, much less likely, the US). Monarto Zoo is certainly not going out of chimpanzees, the numbers are purely coincidental.

My mistake. I must have seen the mention of three Spotted hyena in the above post and put two and two together.
That said, the import of three females would be a logical move. Enough to found a new troop, which has room to grow; while giving either Auckland or Adelaide the chance to offload some males.
This article says that the zoo received 13 baboons.
It also mentions that zoo now has three zebra. With 11 chimpanzees and 13 baboons that zoo must be a hive of activity!

Wow that is a lot of primates. The exhibits are not too big and they will only have 1 for each species, so I wonder how that will work.
The chimps are from Schwaben Park in Germany - this place had a lot of chimps and wanted to go out of them but given that they’re non subspecific nowhere in Europe really wanted them.
