It seems like poaching is the main issue here, so finding a solution to that problem would be preferable to a forced relocation. If anything, this could make matters worse if it creates resentment against both the government and the animals.
I wasn't clear on whether the dragons or their prey are the ones being poached... does anyone else know more about the poaching situation on Komodo?
I agree, not a good solution. Moving all those villagers and potentially costing them their jobs will cause resentment towards the government. Could backfire even farther if they resort to hunting the dragon's prey or the dragons themselves. Less people around also means easier work for the poachers depending on what protections the Indonesian government actually puts in the park during that period. Working with the local people to protect endangered species has the potential to work pretty well, look at anti-poaching patrols in Africa.
@Coelacanth18 I recall reading somewhere that the dragons were being poached, but currently don't have information to confirm that.
