Apparently so, not sure how he doesn't burn his own face off when his visor is closed as it just deflects the beams.

As I recall, the beams are not thermal energy but rather concussive force, and the visor/glasses are made from a special crystal which converts it to red light (which is why the visor/glasses appear red).

So the glasses and the visor don't deflect the beams but actually store them instead? That makes a bit more sense... (Well for comic books anyway!)
