1. I have no further news on Kala but presume she is making/has made a full recovery. Whether she can breed again in due course remains to be seen.

2. Kukena is being prepared for a move sometime soon, but I don't know when or where to.

3. Kera only became pregnant by Komale, not Jock who doesn't mate her afaik, so contraception might not even be necessary. I doubt she will ever breed again now Komale has left- she is more just a 'filler' for the group now I think.

Just before I stop mentioning the Western Lowland gorillas are any new females coming to join Jock in his conally? Also I hope there's another uneventful gorilla pregnancy and birth relitivly soon?

Also as you already know Lady Hillary the Red Panda passed away, as a result does anyone know if a new female has arrived to join Chota and form a new breeding pair?

Also how are Sonika and Sahee the new Asiatic lion pairing getting on? "I sencirly hope that they have cubs one day".

Visited a week last Saturday on one of the odd sunny days, the gorilla house was open again and all seam to be going on as normal with the troop, didn’t see the red panda but i rarely do so no surprise there the lions are getting on well both where asleep on top of each other on the raised platform towards the back of the enclosure.
 
BBC Inside Out West recently broadcast an interesting piece on Bristol’s last Polar bears, well worth a view if anyone’s interested. Of particular note I didn’t know Alison Cronin had links to the zoo.

Has anyone read the book mentioned in the piece, “The Wild Within?” Any good?
 
UK zoo charges to green energy future

England's Bristol Zoological Society has taken a renewables-powered leap into a low-carbon future.

Under a new agreement, energy provider Bristol Energy will provide gas and 100% renewable electricity to the animal exhibits at Bristol Zoo Gardens, including to the reptile, insect, monkey and gorilla enclosures.

It will also supply the garden's fellow attraction in South Gloucestershire, the Wild Place Project with energy – the popular site is home to baboons, brown bears, giraffes, zebras and cheetahs.

Very nice breeding-result but the information in the article is IMO not completly correct. It said there are about 70 of this species in captivity world-wide but alone in Europe already 39 public collections are keeping the species and I'm sure also in private hands at least an equal number ( but prob. a lot more ) are kept !
